Box Office: 'The Back-Up Plan' wins Friday, but will 'Dragon' slay for weekend title?

the-back-up-plan.jpgThe new Jennifer Lopez romantic comedy "The Back-Up Plan" was No. 1 on Friday (April 23),  according to estimates. But Dreamworks' dragon flick could end up slaying its way into the top spot by the end of the weekend.

"Plan," opening domestically on 3,280 theaters, brought in an estimated $4.2 million on opening day. However, Paramount's "How to Train Your Dragon" (now in its fifth weekend) was close behind with about $3.7 million -- and matinees could help it take the weekend title.

Coming in next was Fox's Carrell-Fey comedy "Date Night," in its third week out, with $3.3 million.

Another new release this weekend, "The Losers," trailed slightly behind in fourth. The PG-13 flick starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana and Chris Evans, brought in $3.2 million.

"Kick-Ass" box office numbers continue to shame its title, being anything but ass-kicking. In its second weekend, the Lionsgate film pulled in $2.9 million.

You don't have to be a genius to figure out that the Box Office always takes a dip right after Spring Break.
Release Dates have everything to do with the success of films.

Kick-*** dropped 63% in week #2. Just 2.9 million Friday is quite pathetic. Meanwhile, that Dragon movie is five weeks in and is going to bring in box office receipts in the high teen millions again! (Possibly 16 million).

LOL at the haters the movie will have legs as the word of mouth is good.

Pierre, OBVIOUSLY Jennifer Lopez doesn't suck. Her movies usually perform pretty well. I think of everything she does(design clothes, act, sing, dance), she acts the best and she has a lot of on screen charisma. I love her in Out of Sight, The Wedding Planner and Monster-In-Law. Let's also not forget that Jennifer Lopez is a Golden Globe nominated actress. You don't get nominated for that when you suck.

she still SUCKS though, she's not even funny.People just have bad taste. Her movie will drop like a ROCK next week when A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET opens.

Anonymous, you obviously don't follow the box office. Horror flicks rarely crack 20 million in their opening weekends and then they sink like stones. You don't have to like Jennifer Lopez. But you can't say she sucks. All her success pretty much makes you look like an ill-informed jackass.
