Box Office: 'Date Night,' 'Titans' clash too close to call

tina-fey-steve-carell-date-night.jpgDespite "Date Night" winning the Friday, April 9 box office with $9.3 million, the weekend title is too close to call.

20th Century Fox, the distributor for "Date Night," is estimating the weekend numbers at $27.1 million, eeking out a win ahead of "Clash of the Titans" at $26.9 million. Warner Bros., the distributor for "Titans," says their movie has taken the No. 1 spot for the second week in a row, with "Date Night" trailing "Titans" by $1 million.

Studios have numbers for the Friday and Saturday box office earnings, but they have to estimate what their movies will bring in on Sunday, hence the too-close-to-call race between "Date" and "Titans." Official numbers will be released on Monday, April 12.

After Friday, it looked like "How to Train Your Dragon" was in the weekend title hunt, but now it is looking like a two-movie race between "Date Night" and "Clash of the Titans." "The Last Song" and "Why Did I Get Married Too?" finished 4th and 5th on Friday night and most likely held their ground through Saturday.

Here is the estimated Top 10 from Hollywood.com. Final figures will be released Monday, April 12.

1. "Date Night," $27.1 million.

2. "Clash of the Titans," $26.9 million.

3. "How to Train Your Dragon," $25.4 million.

4. "Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too?", $11 million.

5. "The Last Song," $10 million.

6. "Alice in Wonderland," $5.6 million.

7. "Hot Tub Time Machine," $5.4 million.

8. "The Bounty Hunter," $4.3 million.

9. "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," $4.1 million.

10. "Letters to God," $1.3 million.

Seems like the critics only like movies with liberal hacks in them even if they suck.

I'm a conservative hack that has no balls which is why I post as Anonymous.

Spoken like a true liberal.

Thanks for that stunningly astute observation, Anonymous. Dumbass. Leave it to a conservative to hijack the comment section to ramble on about something that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Don't you have anything better to do? Like, jumping off a cliff or something?

Since when were box-offices a platform to rant about politics?

LOL 3rd place finish...

It has everything to do with politics.
Critics slobber over anti american movies, liberl activist actors and they of course write for liberal newspapers.
How naive are you about the spoon fed propaganda in tv, film and news.

They must be devastated that homely Fey came in third place.
It had no direct competition ,being the only comedy released and all the Media Hype failed to give it the coveted 1st place

Hey Anonymous, your candidate lost in 2008 and will lose again in 2012. Get over it. If your candidate is Palin in 2012, there isn't enough room on her hand to write stuff to come close in a debate!
