'Batman 3' release date set for 2012

batman-the-dark-knight-320.jpgThe next time Batman hits Gotham will be in two years.

Warner Bros. announced that July 20, 2012 as the official release date for "The Dark Knight" sequel, says The Holywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog.

Beyond Christopher Nolan's return as director and trying to work out a story with David Goyer, there are no details about the third film yet.

It's been two years since "The Dark Knight" premiered. It won two Oscars: One for the late Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker and best sound editing.

Nolan is currently finishing up post-production on the sci fi thriller "Inception" starring Leonardo Di Caprio. It debuts in theaters on July 16.

Other films already crowding the 2012 summer movie landscape include "The Avengers" (May 4), "Battleship" (May 25), the "Star Trek" sequel (June 29) and the "Spider-Man" reboot (July 3).

Which villain would you like to see go up against Batman next?

i read somewhere a long time ago that the movie is going to be called "the caped crusader"

With all of those movies coming out Summer 2012, I'd be content with the world coming to an end on December 21st of that year!

:)

I'd like to see Batman take on Catwoman and Poison Ivy. Bruce Wayne is a ladies man so it would be funny to see him get his *** kicked by two women. Kate Beckinsale and Sienna Miller would be excellent as the femme fatales.

i think bain or riddler penguin

Ugh, i can already see that
spider man reboot flopping
around like dying fish.

None of Batman's rivals were as fierce as The Joker. It's going to be tough to follow up the two-punch Joker/Two-Face pairing film.

Thought Two-Face deserved to be the main villain in a Batman flick. Oh well. Maybe Clayface has a similar dynamic -- would love to see that character portrayed by Forrest Whitaker! Other ideas: Killer Croc, Bane, Hush.

Just saw this where Nolan talks about new film and release date...

Most of my experience with Batman comes from a few animated series. My favorite villains are Mr. Freeze from "Batman: The Animated Series" and "Batman Beyond," the Clock King from "Batman: TAS," Francis Grey from "The Batman" (time travel is interesting), and Clayface from "Batman: TAS" and "The Batman" (shapeshifters are interesting too).
