Ande Cunningham on the 'Spartacus: Blood and Sand' prequel: 'I'd love to go back'
The Season 1 finale of the new Starz show "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" saw Ande Cunningham's Duro, the younger of the two German Brothers, die in his brother Agron's (Daniel Feuerriegel) arms. "When it came time to play that scene when I die in his arms, it was unthinkably sad," Ande tells Zap2it. "And what [Agron] was going through, to lose your little brother when you're trying to protect him for so long. It was so sad, it was really a gift of a storyline."
Despite being killed off in the season finale, Cunningham is still grateful for the part, which he received straight out of acting school. "It was kind of a dream job for me, a welcome change fom Shakespeare, although it's kind of Shakespearean in the language. To run around with the sword and to step on to the set ... your imagination just gets fired up, it's just so beautiful and so real. It's like you're in ancient Rome."
"[Duro] was a terrific character to be offered because amongst these super human gladiators, he's the one that's very vulnerable," Cunningham continues. "He's young and inexperienced and thinks he's a lot stronger and a better fighter than he is. It really stood out to me."
News recently broke that production on "Spartacus" Season 2 has been delayed indefinitely in the face of star Andy Whitfield, who plays Spartacus, being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. In the meantime, a prequel may be in development, which could utilize a younger actor to play Spartacus while Whitfield recovers.
Cunningham, having died in the season finale, cannot appear in Season 2 but would be available for the prequel. He tells Zap2it in regards to the possible prequel, "No one's had any word at the moment. So who knows? I'd love to go back, it was an incredible experience."
What do you think guys? Would you like to see Ande Cunningham's Duro back in the prequel?

Head writer Steven DeKnight has denied that there will be a "Young Spartacus" storyline in any potential prequel. He tweeted:
@stevendeknight "A 'younger' Spartacus story arc between season 1 & 2? Not true. Don't know how this rumor got started."
Definitely, Ande did a great job with that role. Everyone I know that watched it enjoyed the acting in Spartacus, that's what made it so good in the later episodes.
I enjoyed it this season. Hope sparty gets well so season 2 can start up.
I'm having Spartacus withdrawls.... so I hope he gets better soon!!!
The story of "Duro" and "Agron" was one of the little hidden gems in the first season of "Spartacus". His ending, saving his older brother was very touching in the blood bath of the finale. I'd love to see how the brothers ended up in "Batiatus's" arena. The prequel should also give the lovely Erin Cummings "Sura", a chance to shine as well.
As most of the creative minds that are able to step out of the "Whedonverse", Stephen DeKnight has proven his own genius with this show. (He needs to convince Joss Whedon to make the move to cable already.)
Get well soon Andy.
should be about crixus.
There is NO prequel of any sort ZAP2IT stop spreading rumours!!!
I would like to see the prequel be about how the gladiators' lives were before they were gladiators. That way we can understand their background more.
hey, head writer!
We would be veeery glad, if we could see these boys in the prequel.
I hope so we may see Duro yet on the screen. Ande is very talented actor and he plays well the young and inexperienced boy's role.
by the way: the show is awesome! I can't wait for season 2!
and: Get well soon Andy!!
i think yes!!!
