'American Idol's' Adam Lambert as mentor: Zap2it readers weigh in
How will Adam Lambert do as the "American Idol" mentor for the Top 8? Zap2it readers come down on both sides. It was leaked Tuesday, April 6 that Adam Lambert will be the guest mentor on next week's "Idol." Adam himself tweeted, "It's true! In addition to performing on Idol April 14th, I will be mentoring the top 8 on the 13th. I feel honored to be asked" and "Even though I'm just at the start of my recording career, I hope to lend some insight as one who's been thru the Idol adventure. excited!!"
What did the Zap2it readers think?
Adam Lambert rocks!
Mary: This is so exciting! Adam is electric on the stage - he will bring some fire back to AI!
Dave: He'll be a fantastic mentor!! They couldn't have chosen a better one. I can't wait to see what he does.
Nina: Who better than a mega talented person who played that show like a Stradivarius. Like Paula said to him his first night on the big stage, No one in the history of that show, all seven seasons had been so comfortable on stage, and knew who they were as performers. Heaven knows this season 9 bunch needs all the help it can get...particularly in that area.
RockFan: He's a perfect mentor. He's accomplished what they all want--to make it the final show. And he's an international star with an album at the top of the charts around the world. Kudos to AI for being smart enough to be fresh, current, and innovative in their thinking. This is a great idea!
Adamluvr: Adam is a fantastic choice for mentor. Not only has he been through the experience and can help in this area, he also has a fantastic stage presence which is missing from this year's contestants. I can hardly wait for next week's shows!!!
Adam Lambert is a terrible choice
Bill: What a joke. Knowing that the person who's going to mentor you...LOST!
Mr. G: Why not just get Kris Allen instead?? He WON - Lambert LOST. Debbie, calm down - its so funny how you people jump on Lamberts bandwagon and the guy hasn't done squat to deserve it. No hit album, no hit single, where is all the whoopla this man was supposed to cause?? Is it just online?? here??
Ken Trew: he is not someone who should be mentoring...he's an overblown "windbag" with no class. He is so "full of himself" it is sickening!
Ruff: That is ridiculous... They should get someone who is actually a true successful star/idol from this show...Kelly, Carrie, or Jennifer Hudson.
First Miley Cyrus, now Adam Lambert... just adds to an already bad season.
Barbara: He hasn't been in the biz long enough to mentor.
There were readers on both sides, but the majority of the Zap2it commenters were pro-Adam Lambert. What do you think? Vote now!

this is an insult not only to Kris Allen, but to all previous Idol winners, especially those like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood that have been extremely successful. Heck, even Daughtry would have been better. It just seems to me that someone on Idol has their feelings hurt that Adam lost and is trying to prove a point. Didn't they learn anything from the AMA's?
Adam helped his fellow contestants w their song=mentor!Only he can sing all genres. He is great at changing a song to make it current. No one on Idol can match his flawless:"Ring Of Fire""Mad World""Whole Lotta Love""Feeling Good""If I Can't Have You""Cryin""A Change Is Gonna Come"-no one can touch his singing talent, but he can show them how to do their best. The AI show is boring without him.
Adam is amazing, and the AI ,INc, knows it. He is knowledgable about songs and music that all other Idols lack. He can sing any genre the contestant chooses, so he can actually give advice. Adn to the jealous bitter who still c/o AMA, he has performed on TV since then to standing ovatios:on Letterman, Leno twice, The View, Ellen, Conan, Oprah and SYTYCD so catch up with the latest-Orianthi will open for him in June, as he will headline his own tour. (Oprianthi is the great female guitaist seen on Michael Jackson's 'This is it' movie
Wonderful news. Though,Adam has a tough job to do-this year's contestants can't sing. I watch & my mind wanders before they even finish- I'll never buy their albums- and if it weren't for Adam, I probably wouldn't even watch next week. The show is nothing without him;it is a bore, even the judges are not able to be interesting.
It's an insult to other idols..my, my, my Diane perhaps it's time to get yourself a life and not take a silly little reality show so seriously.
Best move AI has made this season. The contestants are mediocre, the judges are a bore, the show is sinking. If they want a prior contestant to mentor- the only one with the knowledge and ability to actually do the job is Lambert.Congratulations AI,wise choice, smart move.
What has the guy did since Idol? The answer is not much. It's a joke to have someone that has not one hit single mentor. The Miley Cyrus mentoring was just as bad. No wonder Idol sucks this year.
Oh, just get past the AMA for pete sake!!! On that same program, the female performers did a lot of sexy humping, bumping and grinding, as I recall. One of which is to be on tonights Idol show during primetime no less!!!
Adam will be great! He has the voice! Kris has been on already and twice would be too much!
I'm so excited to see Adam back on Idol. He's more than qualified to mentor on how to play the Idol game, which he did brilliantly.
Nobody knows whether Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood has been asked to be a mentor. They, especially, Kelly, may want to stay as far away from the show as they can.
I'm not an Adam fan. But could you people come up with a better response than "why not bring the winner back? Adam lost"? As the most polarizing performer on the idol stage, it's a surprise that Adam got as far as he did. Like him or hate him, he brought the excitement to the show.
For those who concentrated on album sales, he's the only contestant from Season 8 whose album has gone Gold in the US, Singapore, New Zealand and double platinum in Canada.
I know it's hard to be happy for Adam when your favorite idol isn't going to be a mentor on AI. Mine isn't. But no reason to be bitter about it. Adam is an amazing singer and a great person. I have total respect for him.
