'American Idol': Brian Dunkleman says 'not surprising' Ryan Seacrest 'would act crazy'
Brian Dunkleman has responded to Ryan Seacrest's crack at his expense from the Wednesday, April 14 episode of "American Idol" and fortunately, he seems to be rolling with the punches. Dunkleman tells TV.com, "It was an attempt at a joke. But unfortunately for Ryan, instead of a laugh, he got applause. That's never really been his strong suit. But it was a joke, and whether it was mean-spirited or not is irrelevant. A joke's a joke; you can either take it or you can't."
Dunkleman continues, "'Dancing With the Stars' has replaced 'Idol' as the number one show for, what, the last two weeks? I'm sure that's sending Seacrest into a panic. It's not surprising that he would act crazy to get attention, or throw my name out there--he's done things like this before."
He also touches on "American Dunkleman," the web series that he started. "I think it's a great idea for a show. I wouldn't have to make anything up--if you're a guy who passed up one of the biggest shows in the history of the world, these things just happen to you, and I think it's funny. That's my sense of humor. Some of my favorite shows are Ricky Gervais' "Extras" or "Curb Your Enthusiasm."
Zap2it readers think he should just come back to "Idol." 74% of voters say, "Heck yeah! Give the guy another shot."

Comments after this article say it all. This guy always be known as a loser who missed biggest opportunity in history of showbusiness. No surprising he's so bitter about Seacrest.
This scandal around Seacrest will be forgotten next week - this guy's life will be the same as always.
I always wondered what happened to that guy. I hope he gets back on his feet soon.
I think he is on his feet - not dying from hunger and has some sort of work. But he doesn't have Seacrest's career, and I bet it's killing him.
It's not really about Seacrest - just missed opportunities. Even this sudden interest - also thanks to Seacrest.
What I don't understand is... why did Dunkleman leave Idol? It's not like the show was some sleeper hit... it was a massive success in Brian's only season.
Seems awfully silly to leave so early on something so popular
From what I remember, The Dunk was dropped in favor of a one host series.
And, It's not like anyone said after Season 1, I'm not watching American Idol without The Dunk...
Come on people... He sucked
The only thing Dunkleman has done since Idol is get his *** kicked on My Name is Earl.
The problem with Seacrest and Dunkleman in Season 1 of American Idol was this: the hosts of the British version were Ant and Dec, two hugely popular UK presenters who have worked together for years and have great chemistry together. Throwing two guys together here without that background and chemistry, to try to instantly copy the UK version. was an error in judgement. Blame the decision makers, not Dunkleman or Seacrest.
Seacrest doesn't do jokes or humor very well considering he's not a comedian and has no background in stage performance or improvisation. And he certainly can't do "edgy" humor.
Dunkleman left Idol VOLUNTARILY. giant bone-headed move on his part, but the guy is likeable and i wouldn't mind seeing him back in some Idol segment. he does humor better than Seacrest. he also appeared on Celebrity Fit Club a few seasons back! wonder if he kept the weight off?
I heard on several occasions that Ryan also wanted to host the show alone. He didn't want a co-host and this could be true because there was a girl from Season 1 that was going to do the on the road audition stuff and was then dismissed from it. and was not told until she saw Ryan doing it on Tv
