'Walking Dead' is alive at AMC
AMC will prepare you for your next zombie apocalypse. The cable network announced Monday (March 29) that it has ordered six episodes of "The Walking Dead," based on the comic book of the same name by Robert Kirkman.
"Kirkman's series brilliantly captures the social commentary and ongoing human drama of the zombie apocalypse; and lets us kick a little zombie you-know-what from time to time," says Joel Stillerman, Senior Vice President of Programming, Production and Digital Content.
Frank Darabont will direct, write and executive produce, while Charles "Chic" Eglee will co-executive produce.
Only one person has been cast so far. "The Ghost Writer" actor Jon Bernthal as Shane, the partner and friend of police officer Rick Grimes, who leads a group of survivors in the wake of a zombie apocalypse.
Production will begin in Atlanta in June, and will premiere in October.
After so many vampire and werewolf projects, it's about time zombies got a little love. A big-screen adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" is also being developed.
