'United States of Tara': Joey Lauren Adams kick starts the season 2 drama

The second season of Showtime's "United States of Tara" starts Monday (March 22) and it seems as though the series is ready to hit its stride.
If you stuck with it through season one, you know they were getting there towards the end of that first run, but when we meet back up with the Gregson family this week, their stories begin to unfold right away, and since we already know the characters, there's little time wasted.
About three months has passed since Tara (Toni Collette) left the in-patient treatment center, and though they never did determine the initial cause of her alters, she seems to be doing unusually well. She's on meds, she hasn't "transitioned" in quite a while and there's a skip in her step too.
But of course, all can't stay la-di-da on a series that follows a woman with multiple personalities supposedly brought on by sexual trauma.
Nope.
Tragedy will strike pretty early on and you'll see it slowly but surely get inside Tara's head.
But there are still good things happening.
Kate (Brie Larson) has graduated from high school -- and that stupid chain restaurant -- and seems to be moving on to bigger and better endeavors (though Nate Corddry as her D-Bag boss will be missed).
Marshall (Keir Gilchrist) is making new friends, as are Tara and Max (John Corbett).
Oh, and Charmaine (Rosemarie DeWitt) -- despite her dalliance with Neil (Patton Oswalt), who doesn't appear in the premiere, but will rear his adorable head later -- is still dating that handsome dude who has a real job and stuff.
However, look for the addition of Joey Lauren Adams as a local bartender-waitress to really kick start the drama...
"The United States of Tara" premieres Monday, March 22 at 10:30 p.m. ET on Showtime

Adams kick starts is very nice actors thanks
I see the ad for the show united states of tara. everything i have read on "real" mp shows it to be a horrible condition. how does comedy flow from cancer or AIDS. also, since mp does not exist. that's right. does not exist. what are these people doing making such an irresponsible series. any actress should have known it right away. anyone with real mp would have multiple warerobes in their closet, messages from people from the different personalities, packages showing up for the different personalities, all at ONE LOCATION. sure, no one would notice.
I have written a book on the subject called Literature, Psycholgy, and Psychiatry. In addition I have traced mp back to the story of Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. mp does not show up til Robert Louis Stevenson had a dream that his wife woke him up from in 1885. There is no Greek play on mp.
in addition, the "oedipus complex" is nonesense. The marrying of Oedipus to his mother after killing his father is a plot device to highlight the theme of identity and how important it is for people to know who they are. If you don't know who you are you can become so confused and disoriented you can wind up killing you father, marrying your mother, and not even know you did it. This is a new interpretation of Oedipus. Freud himself admitted he had these feeling for his parents. sounds like projection to me. Freud tries to take a few lines from Oedipus to prove a sexual theory about people, but in all of literature Freud only has a few lines from one play. it the codition was so univeral it would be found in story after story like infidelity or war.
The united states of tara makes "mental illness" a joke and subjects people who can be labled mentally ill as the butt for jokes. hollywood, however, knows no shame. Steven Speiberg is the producer. why would he use the power of tv to make fun of people who have, serious, psychological problems? Must be a reason.
also the name of the show is a misnomer. the states are not united, art they? what are they talking about? they don't know. so why are they making a tv show. must be a reason.
David Vallaire
Coincidentally I went to the same film school as Spielberg, Cal State Long Beach but we attended at different times.
Put a cork in it, Vallaire. United States of Tara isn't supposed to be an educational look into people who suffer from DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder), which is the actual name of the disorder. Even the people making the show said they know that people who have DID don't have it to the same extent as Tara, with such developed altars. It is a television show, which is meant to be compelling, touching and entertaining, and it certainly is all those things. If you want a real look at people with DID, do some research online. Otherwise, enjoy the show.
Vallaire, if you are up on your Freud (obviously you are not on your grammar or spelling) you would know that your mother took you off the tit too soon. that's why you are so bitter and angry - spewing garbage that has been pounded into your head by professors with little *****. obviously that is what you identify with and feel comfortable being around. misery loves company. anyway, build yourself up there little man.
making "jokes" of mental illness is mental illness.
arguing abusing people, by media making up things that are not true and presenting them as true, is mental illness.
So David Vallaire went to the same film school as Spielberg! What in the hell does that get him? A ticket to the movies?
