Tyler Labine finds 'True Love,' 'Melrose Place' star moves on

tyler-labine-jessica-lucas.jpg"Sons of Tucson" star Tyler Labine initially turned down a role in CBS' pilot "True Love." He's changed his mind.

Labine, who also starred in The CW's "Reaper," will play one of the lead roles in the comedy, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Elsewhere, "Melrose Place's" Jessica Lucas is joining an NBC comedy, and "JAG" star David James Elliott has come aboard ABC's "Scoundrels."

Labine was initially offered the "True Love" role in January, before "Sons of Tucson" premiered. He said no then, but now -- after "Sons" has debuted and has performed only modestly in the ratings -- he decided to say yes.

"True Love" centers on four people whit differeing views on love. Jason Biggs will play a guy who falls for a woman played by Minka Kelly, even though he's in a relationship, while Labine will play Biggs' friend, who doesn't believe in love.

Other casting news:

- Lucas, who plays Riley Richmond on The CW's "Melrose Place," will be part of the enesmble in NBC's "Friends with Benefits," THR says. The comedy from "(500) Days of Summer" writers Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber is about five friends looking for love. The cast also includes "Dollhouse's" Fran Kranz and "One Tree Hill's" Danneel Harris.

- Elliott, who also starred on "Close to Home" and in NBC's miniseries "The Storm" last summer, will replace Neal McDonough in "Scoundrels." The show, which is set to debut in the summer, stars Virginia Madsen as the head of a family of criminals who goes straight after her husband (Elliott) is sentenced to prison.

The show is based on a New Zealand series called "Outrageous Fortune." It's ABC's second crack at the show; it shot a pilot from "Veronica Mars" creator Rob Thomas a couple years ago but didn't pick it up.

- Two other NBC comedies have also added to their casts. Nick D'Agosto ("Heroes") has signed on to "This Little Piggy," and Ashley Madekwe ("The Beautiful Life," "Secret Diary of a Call Girl") has joined Katharine McPhee in "The Pink House."

It's about time that sex-on-a-stick David James Elliot got back on TV. I miss seeing his gorgeous face and hearing his sexy voice.

"people whit differeing views"

Wow! It's frequent to have multiple spelling errors in a Zap2It article (after all, the writers apparently haven't heard of spell-checking or proof-reading), but this time it's not only in the same sentence, but in back-to-back words! Way to set a new record, Rick Porter :-)

As to the article contents itself, I also am glad to hear that DJE is coming back to network TV...although not for the same reasons as AmericanEagleJRL :-)

@Rick - I would contend that there is a difference between a spelling error and a typing error. Yeah, the end result is the same, but the latter is more understandable.

Just because she's cast in a new role doesn't mean she's leaving Melrose Place, there is such a thing as a non-exclusive contract with a television network and actors work in two or more shows at different networks at the same time all the time, or a movie and a tv show, etc. You hate Melrose Place, and you'll do anything to dig it's grave, that's kind of sad. I have a feeling the bisexual character upsets a lot of people in the red states, and the haters probably come from them, the overconservative old fart crowd.
