It just goes to show that advertising still works. The academy (lower case intended) and ABC spent (literally) untold amounts to hype the telecast, getting the Amen-corner of the entertainment press to endlessly portray the awards as a "tight race" to try and build a fake sense of excitement.
The take is that unlike NBC and CW's PR efforts which have lost all credibility, this award show still has some left (don't ask me why as you'd have to pay me to watch them) and they've used a lot of it this year.
Now to my award to worst posting software: zap2it.com which still has its software tell me I "recently" posted too much when it's my first post of the day. Congrats zap2it!!
haha if csb and foxy had any guts they woudln't of run "reruns" lol porr, sad things. grate acceptance sppeech by Sandra Bookman.
after tonight ABC will be back in 4th spot
YAWN are they over yet
Clearly the Academy Awards was by far the longest and most boring awards show this season. Since the result was pretty much as expected the filler should have been better to keep us from switching channels.
I watched the Amazing Race and then Big Love. The Oscars are boring anymore..who cares who wins..you just read it on the internet the next morning.
ABC will be back in the toilet on Monday night.
I have to give it to "til Death"...going against the Olympics one week and the Oscars the next and still pulling in ~2.5 million each week says the show has a stable fan base. Small, but stable.
I still can't get over what an incredibly surreal sight it is to see ABC actually listed at the top of the ratings each and every hour last night!
THE OSCARS HAD NO REAL COMPETION--------NO WONDER THE RATINGS WERE UP---DUH.
anyway the poster who said the Oscars ratings is due mostly to the huge promotion is right. and also i think due to the appealing hosts. the show however, was disappointing and very poorly directed, and just reminded me why i never watch these stupid things in the first place. next year i won't make the same mistake, as i am sure many others will not either. clue: look for a ratings drop next year unless there is some extenuating circumstance/controversy to save it.
