TV ratings: 'Idol' is Tuesday's top show, but CBS leads night
Fast National ratings for Tuesday, March 9, 2010"American Idol" was once again Tuesday's most-watched show, but CBS' strength at 9 and 10 o'clock gave the network a win for the night.
CBS scored 16.8 million viewers and a 10.4 rating/17 share in primetime, beating the 15.2 million viewers and 8.7/14 for FOX. NBC (7.3 million, 4.6/8) came in third, followed by ABC (6.2 million, 3.9/6). The return of "90210" and "Melrose Place" originals helped The CW some, but not a ton, as it drew 1.4 million people and a 1.0/2.
FOX did win the adults 18-49 demo with a 5.6 rating, finishing well ahead of CBS' 3.4. NBC took third with a 2.9. ABC's 2.4 was good for fourth, while The CW trailed at 0.7.

The Forgotten has an appropriate name!
Was ABC even airing shows last night? It would have done better if it had aired a fireplace video.
NBC sure stank up the TV too. Biggest Loser dropped viewers and Parenthood is barely equaling the old Leno Show in viewers. So much for helping out the local news affiliates.
Ouch for The CW.
Looks like this means that Life Unexpected will live to see a second season!
Move over, Melrose Place. Lux is here to stay!
Another sad night for the networks. Idol the true hit of the season did great against NCIS. However Glee lost more than 60% of its lead in and that in my book is a loser, FOX needs to cancel this show now. Not even a Madonna episode will save this stinker. The Biggest Loser, lived up to its name and couldn’t even pull 10 million viewers and Parenthood a concept gone wrong, lost more than 25% of its led in. ABC was a total disaster, with LOST being sandwiched between two bad shows. When will ABC learn and realize that the LOST reruns should have never been scheduled. Unlike CBS which has developed a new night off of NCIS, ABC has done a horrible job of reinventing its Tues line up off of LOST reruns.
Life Unexpected so deserves a second season!!!
Please! Glee was a rerun last night. The ratings for a rerun aren't in any way comparable to those of a first run episode.
Just wait and see what Glee's ratings are like for April 13th. No, they won't be as big as those for Idol. No one expects them to be. But they will be big.
It was the first pretty good night for American Idol.I forgot that the CW was airing new episodes of 90210 and MP.I was channel surfing while watching The Biggest Loser and saw that MP was new..so i caught part of it.
I also wanted to mention that NBC must be worried about Parenthood's drop from it's debut last week. It's a very good show,I hope it sticks around.
@Get Real: Good point abut the Glee episode being a re-run. :)
Apparently FOX is trying to re-launch the show (something the networks seem to think works, even though all evidence is in the other column).
That sounds like a waste of a perfectly good protected slot where a new show could have been launched.
But then again, FOX apparently doesn't have the money to make more shows!! :(
Re-run or not, these were really bad ratings since it cost FOX an easy victory.
Wow. The rerun of 'Glee' got equal ratings to the new episodes. It's gonna be huge when new eps return. So excited!
