Tuesday's ratings were a little off across the board, but the usual order of things wasn't affected, as "American Idol" ended the night on top. NBC's "Parenthood" drew only a middling total audience but did win its hour in adults 18-49.

FOX led the night with 23.4 million viewers and a 13.1 rating/20 share in households. CBS (16 million, 9.9/16) finished a solid second. NBC (8.2 million, 5.1/8) came in third, while ABC (6.3 million, 4.0/6) took fourth. The CW's reruns were well back of the pack with just 693,000 viewers and a 0.5/1.

FOX's 8.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic put the network way ahead of everyone else. CBS was the best of the rest at 3.3, followed by NBC at 3.1 and ABC at 2.5. The CW could manage only a 0.3.

i liked the pilot of PARENTHOOD

Me too, Parenthood hooked me. I was emotionally attached to the characters already.

Jason Katims, creator of Roswell and Friday Night Lights, provided us with another great show in Parenthood. We thank thee

thats not too bad really of a start for parenthood. Especially for nbc.

Tuesday like usual, Fox American Idol No 1, and CBS with a very SOLID # 2.
the big surprise for me is that NBC get Third, beating ABC. WOW that is a big surprise, they just changed their TV show schedule a week ago, and looks like is getting better....watch out ABC.
POOR ABC..nobody watch it..

I am surprised how badly rated the Parenthood premiere was.

The show was heavily promoted during the Olympics and features a likable cast, yet it failed to get 10 million viewers and NBC is already in spin-mode, hyping demos to try and hide the disappointment.

I'm not sure what caused the bad ratings beyond the fact that the show looked poor visually because they shot it on video.

Yet The Good Wife, which looks awful still got bigger ratings (and it would be a true hit very likely if it looked better).

Rena? Is your whole analysis of a show's performance based on the "look" of a show? Good Wife is a well produced show and "looks" just fine. Your comment was bizarre and amateurish.

@ Rena Moretti
you are the one who is always saying that the demos are what matters most, and if you notice, Parenthood won its demo.

What's really telling is that mega-hyped Parenthood actually lost viewers from its lead-in, the grossly disgusting TBL.

Parenthood is nothing but a huge rip-off of Brothers & Sisters.
