Tom Selleck cops to CBS pilot
Tom Selleck might be returning to television.The former "Magnum P.I." and "Jesse Stone" star is close to a deal to star in CBS' drama pilot about a family of New York police officers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Formerly known as "Reagan's Law," the untitled pilot follows New York chief of police Michael (Selleck) who resides in Brooklyn with the ex-chief (Len Cariou), who happens to be his dad, Patrick. Patrick had divided loyalties between his former fellow cops and the demands of the mayor's office.
Michael's son, the third generation, will be represented by Donnie Wahlberg, who plays police detective Brian.
Selleck hasn't been resting on his "P.I." cred. In the past few years, he's been starring in the "Jesse Stone" movie franchise and played A.J. Cooper on "Las Vegas."
Recently, Selleck had a lot to say to Zap2it about the reboot of "The Rockford Files" and working with James Garner.

This actually sounds like it could be a really good show. Not a huge Selleck fan, but Donnie Wahlberg is a very talented actor (IMO, the wrong Wahlberg hit superstardom) and Cariou was very good in "Brotherhood" and "Damages".
Way to go "Drama"! Edward Burns directing it?
I liked Donnie Wahlberg's CW show "Runaway". The Selleck pilot sounds decent, but I wish CBS would stray from shows involving cops, lawyers or doctors. Shows like "Swingtown" and "Harper's Island" were very welcome changes.
"Way to go Drama"? What does Kevin Dillon have to do with this show? I'll watch anything with Tom Selleck in it.
Ahhh, this is fantastic! Tom Selleck, Len Cariou...if the script is good, I can already say that CBS will have a hit. Selleck has been right about the upcoming bit on Rockford...no James Garner, NO Rockford. I'll watch Tom Selleck read a phone book, NOW if some network will just start showing Magnum PI reruns I'll be happy! (smile)
i have to agree with selleck,i think the new rockford files won't be the same without garner. because when you think of rockford, you think of garner. besides mcdermott is a little too young to play the part. and will definitely have big shoes to fill. the same goes with the suppodedly new magnum that's supposed to also be coming up.
This should be excellent. I love Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg was great in Boomtown.
I am really excited about this show.Among all CBS pilots only this one and The Quinn Tuplets sound interesting to me.Most CBS shows are for man .I just love Tom Selleck!. Good for you CBS!Tom is the best!And the story sounds great, not just another lame cop show.This can be a big hit!
