'The Office,' '30 Rock,' 'Community' picked up for 2010-11
NBC has picked up its Thursday-night comedies "Community," "The Office" and "30 Rock" for the 2010-11 season. The three shows join the previously renewed "Parks and Recreation" and presumably means that the Thursday comedy block will remain intact next fall.
"We are happy to give these early pickups to these critically acclaimed, incredibly funny comedies," NBC Entertainment president Angela Bromstad says. "As a result, we look forward to continuing our rewarding partnership with the respective creative teams and talented showrunners."
NBC is making a bet on creative quality rather than big ratings with the pickups. "The Office" is a top-15 show in the adults 18-49 demographic (and averages 9.4 million viewers), but the others aren't exactly breakout hits. The Emmy-winning "30 Rock" draws 6.9 million viewers and a 3.4 rating in the demo (it's also the most "upscale" comedy on network TV, NBC notes -- meaning it has a high concentration of fans with six-figure incomes). "Community" (5.9 million, 2.7 in the demo) and "Parks and Rec" (5.2 million, 2.4) are farther down the ratings.
The four comedies join a number of early pickups across the network landscape. Other shows already renewed for next fall are ABC's "Cougar Town," "The Middle" and "Modern Family"; CBS' "The Good Wife" and "NCIS: Los Angeles"; FOX's "Glee" and "The Cleveland Show"; and The CW's "90210," "America's Next Top Model," "Gossip Girl," "Supernatural," "Smallville" and "The Vampire Diaries."

As much as I dislike NBC for the Conan O'Brien mishap, I love them for sticking with really great programs without strong ratings on shows like Parks & Recreation, 30 Rock and Community. Seinfeld was WAY down in the ratings its first year and look what it became. Kudos NBC.
We need the offical word that CHUCK is picked up for next season.

If you didn't know already, Community is the best comedy on television, and without HBO the best show. Tons of the fans watch the show on Hulu; I'm in college myself, and abuse the convenience. If Community gets canceled anytime soon, it will be very similar to Arrested Development's cult viewing. Thank goodness NBC wasn't stupid about their Thursday's.
parks & rec is funny az hell. i hope they pick that up for a full/another seaz.
i stopped watching community bcuz chevy chase has 3 lines an episode...and i dont mean coke lines!!!
Community rocks! Best comedy on TV!
when i saw community mentioned in the same breath as Arrested Development I threw up in my mouth. Community is haarrrrrble. Not even close to the genius of Arrested Development. That's like comparing "Married to the Mob" to "The godfather". NBC has simply cemented itself to irrelevance by renewing all it's terrible thursday night shows.
EFF CHUCK, jeesh!
i wish i could see P&R but it's always on during something else. & i'm too lazy to watch it on Hulu. :)
Thank God Parks & Recreation, and Community are the best comedies on TV. The episode this week where Ron Swanson tortured Lesile Knope (Amy Poehler) over getting her Women's award was hysterical. The dead pan lines and just the looks on his face were priceless. The other characters like Aziz A. and Chris Pratt are good too. As for Community - Abed rules and Shirley is so silly!
30 Rock has slipped and I hope it gets it's mojo back. Make some more funny episodes like when Tracy Morgan was haunted by the Blue Man.
I guess NBC is set on being in last place in the ratings. They must not have any creative juices flowing at NBC. With all the publicity that 30 Rock gets and it still loses almost 3 million viewers from its lead-in something is wrong!!!!!
I don't get the love for The Office, both versions of the show are terrible. Parks ad Recreation is also a terrible show, and its ratings are very low (so why would NBC renew it?).
Taylor, the best (live-action) comedies on TV are "The Big Bang Theory" and "Two and a Half Men".
