Syfy mulls more 'Battlestar,' gives 'Three Inches'

battlestar-galactica-320.jpgSyfy continues to expand its brand, which includes eyeing a spinoff of an older series as well as introducing some fresh programming.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, another "Battlestar Galactica" project that places the action back in space may fly again at Syfy, although details haven't been released. Currently, the current "BSG" spinoff "Caprica" has been airing on Fridays to modest ratings.

The network also announced Tuesday that it's ordered the 90-minute pilot "Three Inches," about an unconventional superhero, from "Twin Peaks" writer harley Peyton.

The project centers on Walter, a slacker who gets jolted, literally, when he's struck by lightning and develops the power to move anything telekinetically the distance of three inches. He joins other superheroes who have their own unique powers.

"'Three Inches' is a fun, smart, off-beat spin on the superhero genre. It introduces a new group of crime fighters who possess some imaginative -- if not all that super -- powers," said Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Development for Syfy.

There's been lots of "Battlestar" alum news lately with James Callis guest starring on ABC's "FlashForward" and joining Syfy's "Eureka" for its fourth season, Grace Park landing a role for the "Hawaii Five-0" reboot and Katee Sackhoff being cast in ABC's cop drama pilot "Boston's Finest."

Check back for additional details once Syfy holds its upfront presentation, scheduled for Tuesday (March 16).

@Hahn: Low ratings for Galactica are no surprise. The original was low-rated for its entire span.

Your article made it sound like it had big ratings.

As an aside it's sad to see the awful actress that is Katee Sackoff allowed to poison yet another project with her bad acting now that he put the nail in the coffin of 24.

TV executives need to start realizing that hype is not everything.

I would love to see more BSG! Caprica is okay, but I need Helo, Athena, Starbuck, and The Old Man. At the very least, I need sky fights back.

How lame. I can't believe that Caprica, an awesome show, is being derided for not having "space battles". Seriously, the space battles were NEVER THE POINT of the reimagined series. And if SyFy tries to milk the franchise (especially without RDM's participation), I will NOT be watching. Caprica is great, and if people want the old BSG, they should just rewatch the old episodes.

RDM's participation is no selling point, Siansonea.

Not only is this the guy that killed Kirk; he's the genius that came up with the Starbuck angel thingee.

Siffy ought to remember that when they're reimagining all things BS(G).

Caprica sucks. Sucks sucks sucks. It has nothing to do with a lack of space battles. It has to do with it being BORING and having bad acting and dialogue.

Rena go frack yourself nobody cares what you say on these boards, you are a complete MORON. Battlestar Galactica was and is still the best written and well acted show in t.v. history. The show brought the most publicity ever for a show on the sci-fi network. It was on the covers of t.v. guide and entertainment weekly several times. Many major magazines also endorsed it like TIME.saying it was "One of the best dramas on T.V."So you need to get your facts right MORON!!!! Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell should have got emmy awards several times including the show itself, but whoever does the voting would rather watch dung like mad men than a well written and topical show like Battlestar Galactica.Katee Sackhoff is a great actress too.Pena Moronetti you are just jealous.Go back to watching hannah montana i-carly and gossip girl, because your mind can't handle anything too important on T.V.

Katee Sackhoff is stuck in an awful role because 24 has an exceptionally awful writing staff. She is doing her best with a crap role Ms. Moretti. Her acting isn't what is wrong with "24" its that more people are getting sick of the bad writing.

Battlestar Galatica was one of the MOST OVERRATED scifi shows ever.

all the overwrought drama,

the starbuck character totally sucked, totaly unbelievable,

the lack of technonogy for civilization that was capable of flying around the universe, was astounding

a chain smoking doctor.

the immorality

blator was such pointless character (unlike the original ,

it was a mess to follow from beginning to end.

if it wasn't "Battlestar Galatica"

no one would have cared,

a lot of forced drama with very little happening,

and a lot bad characters from starbuck to baltar

the smugness,

writers who thought they so clever,

but hey if that is your cup of tea....

hey david you and rena should stick with watching hannah montana,i-carly and gossip girl, because i guess watching a T.V. show were you have to use your brain is a bit tough for you two.Buy the way it's Baltar not blator lean to spell idiot.
