On the Scene: Salute to 'Supernatural' 2010
'Supernatural's' Misha Collins: Did Castiel start the apocalypse?
Season 5 of "Supernatural" has been steadily building toward the apocalypse, which was incited when Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) broke hell's final seal in the Season 4 finale. Sam has been in the doghouse with his brother, Dean, and the angel Castiel (Misha Collins) all season long. But was it really Sam's fault, or should Castiel take some of the heat?
Zap2it was on the scene at Creation Entertainment's Salute to "Supernatural" when Misha Collins discussed his character's role in the end of days.
"I act all high and mighty," Collins says. "I'm like, 'You guys started the apocalypse. Jerks!' But secretly, I'm kind of the one who started it."
He's referring to when Castiel, on orders from Zachariah, let Sam out of the panic room. "Look, let's not get bogged down with trivial details like who started the end of the world!" Misha says, waving his hand. "Castiel doesn't like to linger on these things unnecessarily!"
Collins tends to think the apocalypse is pretty cool, anyway. "My favorite episode this season was 'The End,'" he says, referring to the episode where Dean travels to a post-apocalyptic dystopian future. "It was kind of epic. There were a lot of cars flipped over, which for me is what good television is all about."

Uh, no. Castiel is not responsible for what Sam CHOSE to do after he got out of the panic room.
is a bad day _? click my name :)
It always bugged me that Cas was all, "you guys did this. I'm free of blame here!" Pfft. Let us not forget that Sam was under the impression that killing Lillith would STOP the Apocalypse, not start it. Castiel knew it would start it, but he still opened the friggin' door!
At least Misha acknowledges that Castiel does have some of his own blame. I appreciate that! =]
I think I prefer to blame angels like Zacha and Michael who know what was going on and who planned to let the seals get broken since the day they brought Dean back but what do I know. Lol
Blame Canada! /obligatory 'blame Canada' joke
Misha is too funny ;)
Ummmm, @Tammi, Yes Sam made bad choices. He knows that, everybody does. But, Cas knew exactly what he was doing (and what the consequences would be) when he let Sam out of the panic room. It's only right that he should take some of the blame.
Lost's last episode is also entitled The End. Just saying.
cas should take some blame to he helped start it just as much as they did
Nah, it's no one's fault Sam broke the last seal anymore than it's anyone else's fault Dean was in Hell to break the first. But at least it took 30 years of constant torture before Dean did it.
Sam allowed himself to drink demon blood, allowed himself to become addicted to it and thus any actions he took as a result of it were of his own doing. Bobby even tried to stop him and Sam chose to knock him out rather than not.
Sam wasn't doing it to "save the world", he even admitted as much when he mentioned "revenge" and "power" and then started trying to make other better sounding excuses for himself. Both are entirely in character with the Sam we met way back in Season 1. The revenge tendency being obvious, the power one being more subtle but still there all along.
Castiel is at fault for opening the door, but he's not at all fault for any of Sam's choices either before or after that. He chose to trust a demon who had done nothing but lie to him the year before Dean's death, over his brother, over his friend Bobby.
