Report: Conan O'Brien turned down Tonys hosting gig
Conan O'Brien is still in high demand. Too bad he can't accept the jobs. The comedian's latest job offer was hosting the Tony Awards on June 13, says Deadline.com, but he had to turn it down because of NBC's restrictions that he can't appear on TV until September.
There's a lot of back and forth over this alleged incident with Team Coco's side claiming that he's barred from performing by NBC, and the Peacock side claiming that he's free after May 1st, so it's actually O'Brien who's refusing and blaming the network.
Regardless of the finger pointing, it doesn't look like it's happening. O'Brien has presided over award ceremonies before -- the Emmys 2002, 2003 (co-host) and 2006 -- so he definitely has the hosting chops.
Another possible problem is that Coco isn't allowed to discuss NBC, and if he can't take a few jabs at them on the air, what's the fun of that? Neither Team Coco nor NBC have commented on this story.
Previously, it was reported that O'Brien had to turn down an offer to appear on "Idol Gives Back" because of the NBC restrictions.

Probably a good call in this case. The Tonys aren't exactly something I'd associate with Conan. They work best with an actual theatre star involved. And given how popular Neil Patrick Harris was as host last year, I can't see why they wouldn't just ask him to host again anyway. I wonder how much of this report is fact and how much is just rumor.
