Oscars 2010 In Memoriam: Michael Jackson, but no Farrah Fawcett, no Bea Arthur?
The Academy Award memorial montage seemed a little sparse this year. It's not a huge surprise that Michael Jackson was included. He was the biggest death of 2009 and even though he was primarily a musical artist, he did act in a few films.
However, there were a couple notable absences in the montage. Where were Farrah Fawcett, who died in June of cancer, and Bea Arthur, who passed away in April at the age of 86?
In both Fawcett and Arthur's careers they were largely television stars, but both did grace the silver screen -- Fawcett was in "Cannonball Run," "Extremities" and "The Apostle," among others, while Arthur was in "Lovers and Other Strangers," "Mame" and "History of the World part I." They both appeared in more movies than Michael Jackson -- he really only appeared in "The Wiz" and his posthumously-released "This Is It." Why his inclusion and not theirs?
It certainly can't be a time factor, since the broadcast went over 3.5 hours and managed to find time for a montage of horror movies.
So what say you, Adam Shankman? No love for an Angel or Maude? Boo.

I wrote to abc.com only after not being able to send anything through oscar.com about how appalled I was at Farrah's lack of a tribute. What idiots.
And no Jennifer Jones?
This was beyond wrong!
Michael was in The Wiz but that isn't something many have seen...Not because he wasn't great...because he was. Contrary to the experience of many others...I've never seen The Wizard of Oz but I own The Wiz and have seen the stage play.
This doesn't take the place of the great contributions of Ms. Fawcett and Ms. Arthur but the people that make these decisions aren't thinking of us they are thinking of the rich people that pay them...
Outrageous! Farrah and Bea were both movie actors! And to only briefly flash Patrick Swayze at the beginning of the tribute? WTF?
Henry Gibson was also left out.
I am completely disgusted! I liked Micheal Jackson but this is absolutely ridiculous. What is the reasoning Farrah was snubbed? I want to know!
CHUCK WORKMAN is the man that made the Academy memorial montage. FU CHUCK!
Stupid Academy.
It's outrageous to leave out ANYONE associated with the movies in this montage. It's something I look forward to because it honors those who have passed. ABC and The Academy should issue a public apology for leaving out any members who have died.
Well Bea Arthur played a ground breaking character as Maude on TV but this certainly set the tone for other strong females on the silver screen. A terrible omission as the Oscars are supposed to be about tradition and history and the importance of talent.
