Oscars 2010: 'And the winner is ...' returns

alec-baldwin-steve-martin-oscars-2010-320.jpgWinners ... and losers ...  welcome to the Oscars.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences is reverting back to the traditional phrase, "And the winner is ..." to hand out the coveted Oscars statue, instead of using the non-competitive phrase "And the Oscar goes to ..." that's been in practice for the past 22 years, reports The Wrap.

Apparently, the show's presenters have been using the old phrase during the rehearsals at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. It's possible that the phrasing may change at the last minute for the telecast, but there would be no point to rehearse with the old phrase then in the first place.

"And the winner is ..." seems rather appropriate this year considering the Academy increased the race to 10 films vying for best picture this year. That sounds like a competition alright.

The 82nd Academy Awards broadcasts live on Sunday, March 7 from Hollywood at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT on ABC -- unless you're a Cablevision subscriber in New York.

I voted for 'Why is this an issue? Why are people so touchy?' but I do like 'And the Oscar goes to...' but I also have no objection to 'And the winner is...'.

Using 'And the Oscar goes to...' just sounds so natural to me though but I've been watching the Oscars since 1996 and that's all they've used.

It is bit a competition bit instead the celebration of the best in movies but in the era of reality competition tv I wouldn't bs surpaided if they brought back the old phrase.

It's not a competition but instead the celebration of the best in movies but in the era of reality competition television I wouldn't be surprised if they brought back the old phrase.

Sexy Lopez and her curves.

"And the Oscar goes to...." has been in use almost all my life (i'm 23), so that is what I am used to. I don't mind either way though, especially since the Academy Awards RARELY ever go to the actual best movies (they always goes to a certain type of movie, sometimes the best movie doesn't even get nominated).

Damn Acadamy has to change the intro when it's really not such a big deal. Who cares? It's just an awards show.
