'Green Lantern': Angela Bassett climbs wall of villainy

The Green Lantern will have another bad guy to battle.

Angela Bassett has signed on to play villainess Dr. Amanda Waller, according to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog.

DC Comics fans know the character as "The Wall," a government agent who oversees the Suicide Squad, a group of supervillains working for the government in exchange for amnesty. So far it's not certain whether the squad will make an appearance or if the film is setting up backstory.

Bassett joins Peter Sarsgaard in villainy. He'll play Dr. Hector Hammond, who gets exposed to a meteorite that increases his brain capacity and gives him psionic powers over others. Tim Robbins will play his father, Senator Hammond.

Ryan Reynolds has been cast as Hal Jordon who becomes the powerful Green Lantern. "Gossip Girl's" Blake Lively was previously cast as his love interest, Carol Ferris.
