'General Hospital's' Maurice Benard: Sonny would take the fall for his kids
How much of Sonny Corinthos' life has he spent on trial?
The courtroom is like a second home to the beloved "General Hospital" character and fans have recently had the pleasure of watching him fight for his freedom once again.
This time, however, Sonny is an innocent man, being blamed for a murder that his son Michael actually committed.
Zap2it sat down with Maurice Bernard -- the man behind the fictional mob boss -- and asked him how far he thinks Sonny would go to protect his progeny.
"It's a tough situation for him," Benard explains in the clip below. "He'll take the fall for his kids, but he also knows that if he goes to prison, he'll die. Just because he's claustrophobic and because there's people in there who would probably try and kill him ... He's between a rock and a hard place."

I have been on board with Sonny since the Sonny and Brenda days. I'm a fan, I love the flawed anti-hero. But the writers have to find new ways to portray Sonny's temper. How many times can he fly off the handle, then apologize to everyone who witnessed it, i.e. his kids, and assure them he didn't mean it? When will he learn? He's done it with Kristina several times now. He shot his own son, Dante, then apologized, he acted rashly. Then proceeded to fly off the handle and order the murder of Ethan when he thought he hit his daughter. It's getting a little old and less and less attractive each time Sonny gets violent for the wrong reasons and then has to be contrite. Either he means it or he doesn't.
I am so not a Brenda fan. Such a winey person she it. I would like to see Sonny and Olivia together. A new love story. Heck her getting with Sonny is not any different than her and Johnny and don't you think this is leading up for Johnny to get killed off the show? I don't think he has much time in Port Charles...
I just wish they could write something more for Sonny ... his character sleeps around with which women that arrive in town ... get them pregnant or killed ... he is always with a temper/in a fight/in a court-room ... there just needs to be a change for this character ...
I LOVE Sonny and don't want him to change much but I do think they need to tone down the temper because he makes mistakes when he is blinded by temper and that makes Jason look smarter which I don't like!But no matter with all of his faults I will always love Sonny Corinthos
I completely understand why Sonny wanted to kill Ethan. He has NO reason to think Kristina is lying. I'd want to kill Ethan too.

I have been out of the gh loop for way too long. The last I remember luke and laura were still together. Frisco and felesha (hope I spelled that right) were the hottest couple and robert scorpio and his wife, forgot character name, were on. I am sorry to say I don't remember anyone else. But I haven't really watched it since I was 17-18 years old. Long time ago. Not telling how long. :). So Sonny's story is all new too me. But from what I've watched over the past few months has been very suspenseful. I started watching just before Sonny shot Dante. Then I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. Still that way. Can't wait for tomorrow's show. love the suspense.
@ SANDY.... Rob Scorpio's wife..i believe you're talking about Anna Lavery... or something like that. Anyway.. i remember those days too. And i stopped watching for about 3 or so years. I started watching it again just to see what it was up to about a week ago and i find that brenda is back.. I'd like sonny's mobster life would just go away already.. i'm starting to get tired of it.. and jason is just too mean and too serious all the time. I hope you enjoy GH again! I hope i do too..lol!
