Farrah Fawcett's Oscar omission wasn't an accident

farrah-fawcett2-getty.jpgThe exclusion of Farrah Fawcett from the "In Memoriam" montage at the Oscars was not an oversight -- and the academy says it's not surprised that some people are upset at her omission.

Bruce Davis, the executive director of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, said Tuesday (March 9) that the academy left Fawcett out of this year's montage because she was much better known as a TV star. He told the AP that the committee that puts together the tribute "was kind of figuring that probably the Farrah Fawcett and Gene Barry omissions would be the ones we'd get the most comments on."

Fawcett's family issued a statement Tuesday saying they were "bereft with this exclusion of such an international icon who inspired so many for so many reasons."

Davis acknowledged that the decision wasn't an easy one: "There's nothing you can say to people, particularly to family members, within a day or two of the show that helps at all. They tend to be surprised and hurt, and we understand that and we're sorry for it."

Fawcett appeared in about a dozen feature films in her career, along with more than 20 TV movies and numerous series, most notably "Charlie's Angels." She was part of the memorial tribute at the 2009 Emmy Awards.

Hmmm, by my count she was in a lot more movies than Michael Jackson.

You can hurt some peoples' feelings but not others.

This Bruce Davis guy is a moron.

I think the Oscar's are a Joke. They just proved it by putting Michael Jackson in there Memorial. For one where were these people when Michael was on trial? Farrah had more class then Bruce Davis. The stars that belong to the Academy should say something in her honor.

an actual member of the academy or someone who was accused of molestation? it makes no sense.

Is the Academy that desperate to attract a younger crowd. Farah Fawcett, Bea Arthur, Gene Barry deserve to be remembered.
Hasn't the circus that Jackson's family put on been more than enough?
Somebody, please remind me of what is movie credits were???

So the Academy left our Farrah because they felt she was "more of a television star," yet they didn't think Michael Jackson was more of a music star?? The man only starred in ONE major movie, and that was over 30 years ago.

there is no doubt for jackson

an actual member of the academy or someone who was accused of molestation? it makes no sense.

It was good that Michael Jackson was included. and I think Bea Arthur and Farrah should've been too! Shame on them for leaving Farrah out!
