'Early Show' hires CNN's Betty Nguyen
Betty Nguyen has left cable for network news. The former CNN anchor will co-anchor the "CBS Morning News" in addition to reporting for CBS' "The Early Show," according to CBS News.
Nguyen, 35, had co-anchored "CNN Saturday Morning," "CNN Sunday Morning" and the weekend editions of "CNN Newsroom" with T. J. Holmes. As a correspondent, she's covered a number of major stories worldwide as well as domestic. Before joining CNN, she had worked with a CBS affiliate in Dallas, Texas and before that, in Waco, Texas.
She's received a regional Emmy award, was named the first Vietnamese-American to anchor a national television news broadcast in the U.S. by the Smithsonian and landed on Maxim.com's "TV's 10 Hottest News Anchors" list in 2008.
[UPDATE] It was previously announced that anchor Russ Mitchell would leave "Early Show" and become the national correspondent for CBS and continue anchoring Sunday's "CBS Evening News." Erica Hill, who stepped in for Mitchell as co-anchor of the "Early Show," like Nguyen, is also lately from CNN, having left"Anderson Cooper 360."
What's CBS got that CNN doesn't? Maybe it's chutzpah. The New York Times recently reported that CBS was also courting the silver fox himself, Anderson Cooper, and had a meeting with him "months ago" for talks. Speculation is that he's a possible replacement for Katie Couric when her "CBS Evening News" contract expires in mid-2011
CNN denied in a statement that Cooper met with CBS "recently" and claims he only spoke to the network as far as his "60 Minutes" involvement required.

This move STILL won't get CBS out of third place in the news ratings...first thing to do...get rid of Katie Couric and that bloated contract or work her like a mule doing something entirely different and bring in someone else.
what CBS needs to do is a cable partner and strong lead ins and affiliates.. it has nothing to do with Couric.. she's a doing great
Aren't CNN and CBS sort of affiliated? So it's easy for anchors to jump from one place to another. I think AC is next in line to Larry King for that timeslot. But it will be great for him to anchor the CBS evening news.

CBS will never get ratings better than FOX news because this country continues to bathe in retardation.

I'm not certain that Betty Nguyen is that big a pull that I'd switch from GMA to CBS in the morning.
In fact I know she's not. CNN's stable of young women news readers actually pushes me AWAY from their network. They rarely know what they're talking about, they mispronounce words - I don't consider them actual NEWSpeople.
They're only a little better than FOX in that regard.
At least Betty didn't go to Fox!
I am thinking CNN has made a huge mistake. It looks to me like CNN did not make Betty any kind of offer. Why go from the "face of a network" to 4:30am if you have a choice?? Network news is dying. Good luck Betty -- now what to do early sat morning?
I am regular viewer, have been for a long time but the show is quite silly with the ladies all comparing their pregnancy and girl giggles.I miss Russ. Thanks for Harry he saves the show for me.
