'Desperate Housewives': Dana Delany says she may leave for new series

"Desperate Housewives" fans have been abuzz this week with the news that producers approached Dana Delany for a new pilot. Yesterday, the star confirmed that she's indeed in talks for a new show."I'm in negotiations for a new pilot with ABC," she told USA Today at the Independent Spirit Awards Friday (March 5). "It's kind of like networks are the old studio system. Once they have a stable of actors, they don't want them to go to other networks. So, they try to find something else for them."
Doesn't it sound like Delany has already informed ABC that she's looking for other opportunities?
Granted, her character has been absent for much of the last several weeks on "Desperate Housewives" and that must play tricks with an actress with a pedigree such as Delany's. She has appeared on Broadway and she's a two-time Emmy winner for "China Beach."
On the flipside, her steamy storyline with "Dexter's" Julie Benz has just begun and it's definitely grabbing headlines. Maybe, that's not enough.
We reported earlier this week that the producers of "Body of Evidence," an ABC medical drama, had approached Delany about playing the lead. While it sounds like shooting the new pilot wouldn't take her away from Wisteria Lane, the story changes if ABC picks it up.
If the pilot is picked up, Delany says the decision to leave won't be easy.
"You never know," she says. "It's always a gamble because 'Housewives' is such a popular show. It's a top 10 hit and I love doing it, so I'll miss it terribly."

If this was happening 2 yrs ago I would cry and wimper and beg her to stay. But now? Her character is comlpetely ruined. While I like the new Robin/Katherine story, it can only stay entertaining for so long. I mean Bree/Orson are a great example of a couple who started out with great potential, but totally died after a season or two together. I love Dana, and hopes she goes through with the new pilot. She deserves better, a show that will actually utilize her.

I don't care if she leaves... I just want more of Drea de Matteo, I hope she can stay next season!! She can be the 5th housewive if Delany leaves.

I agree that they have totally ruined the character of Katherine. I thought she was great during her first season and last year and earlier this year they just totally ruined her character by putting her with Mike for a little bit. It was terrible.
I'd kind of be sad to see her go as I totally consider her a great 5th housewife and now that she's kind of with it again I've begun to like her again but still...kinda ruined
I feel Dana should move onto better things. They ruined her character with the craziness on DH. There are always ways to fix a ruined character so if she stays I hope they utilize that. But I wouldn't mind seeing her on a new show. I'll miss Julie Benz too and she's just a guest star. As for Drea De Matteo, nothing was ever more boring and useless then the Bolens. Get rid of them all.
I never liked her character from day one. It would have been better if they had let 'Crazy Dave' kill her off, as he intended. Then we could have got rid of two of the dumbest characters on the show. They should have kept Edie.
I totally agree with Blake and Dave. Dana is such a wonderfull actress, she should have the lead role.
