'Dancing With the Stars': Shannen Doherty conquers fear of live audiences

shannen-doherty.jpgShannen Doherty suffers from severe panic attacks when she has to deal with live audiences. So why exactly did she accept an invitation to do "Dancing with the Stars"?

Doherty, 38, tells People that her father suffered a stroke last Christmas and that watching his recovery made her realize she could overcome her own limitations.

"If my dad can fight through having a stroke and the loss of being able to communicate, I think I can do this for him," says Doherty. "So I figured I'm going to get over my fear for him."

And her fear of live audiences is pretty serious.

"I break out in hives, full-blown panic attacks and everything else," she confesses.

Her "Dancing With the Stars" partner Mark Ballas will be there every step of the way to help Doherty conquer her fears. With two wins under his "DWTS" belt, he has proven record of bringing out the best in his partner.

It's quite a performance for her. Based on this story, it seems that practicing alone does not cure panic attacks. You need to change your brain too.

Translation: "I need the money to pay off those bills I got sued for. Oh, and working would be a nice switch from the recent norm."
