'CSI: Miami's' Emily Procter on Calleigh's complicated love life

emily-procter-csi-miami-large.jpgAs fans of CBS' Monday hit "CSI: Miami" know, CSI Calleigh Duquesne (Emily Procter) and former CSI Eric Delko (Adam Rodriguez) have consummated their long-simmering relationship. With Rodriguez returning to the show full-time next season, there should be plenty more opportunities for romance.

Procter isn't surprised the two came together.

"We both watch TV," she tells Zap2it. "There's wish fulfillment in entertainment. Let's face it, we, the humans, watch other humans being human for entertainment. It's a big, fat zoo. Why wouldn't you want to see love in there? I mean, it's the most powerful thing of all.

"We were just the last two left."

Rodriguez recently dubbed the relationship "Delquesne."

"That's pretty good," says Procter.

While fans have mixed feelings about the pairing, it is a step up from some of Calleigh's previous choices.

"Calleigh has poor taste in men," Procter says. "She's the child of an alcoholic. She has an alcoholic father. She picks terrible people for herself.

"One's dead; one got married. Jake disappeared, but I think he's coming back. Then there was the guy that I rode out into the sunset with, that we never saw again. He rode off into 'Cougar Town.' That's true, he did."

Calleigh and her boss, Lt. Horatio Caine (David Caruso), have a nice rapport, but Procter doesn't anticipate any sparks there.

"The only reason," she says, "I could guess that they didn't put the two of them together would be that he's a really mystical character. If you had him in a personal relationship, inevitably he'd have to expose some of himself, and I just don't think that, as a character, it works.

"Or I thought maybe it's because it was important that he always have really beautiful girlfriends that got killed.

"If I were a Floridian, I would not date either Horatio or Calleigh. It would not be a smooth move."

Asked if she thinks Calleigh and Eric should one day wed, Procter says, "I think it would be fun if it turned into a 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' thing. It'd be nice to see them at home, with children, trying to balance having a job like this.

"I always think that when you can take the reality of a situation and add the fantasy to it, it's good."

As for the wedding itself, Procter says, " Well, it should have lots of Cuban influence. Outside, because it's Miami. I imagine there would be an infinity pool, and we would stand on top of some sort of platform, watching the water go into the ocean. Maybe all the CSIs would have to wear white."

This being "CSI: Miami," perhaps drug lords would then attack.

"People would go down," Procter says. "Either Delko or Calleigh would be killed, no doubt about it. Maybe this will be the finale of the series."

Emily Procter is such a hoot, you gotta love her! I dig her quirky sense of humor. I agree that it would be great to see a Calleigh-Eric wedding. Their chemistry has been simmering for over 7 long years ... it's about time! The "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" idea would be pretty cool, too. Now that Adam will be back full-time next season (YAY!), the possibilities for Eric and Calleigh are endless.

my sister is her fans

I'm sorry there is no chemistry between these two on camera. The relationship started 3 1/2 years ago and the rest of the adult world has had to endure this mess. Now she wants a baby? Can we say bring on the kidnapped baby drama? Why for the love of God; do they keep this going? OH, I know to appease the tweeners and at the same time fulfill Emily's agenda to have a baby. I also feel that this keeps her and Adam front and center. Move over and let the others have a go.

" Why wouldn't you want to see love in there? I mean, it's the most powerful thing of all." My only comment would be "Why would I want to see that? Why would I want to see their children??? WHYYYYY?????"
This was just crazy!

OH GOSH!!!!!

I just cannot believe what I've just read....I mean are you kidding?
I want to watch CSI:Miami and not a very poor soap opera and I don't give a damn to their "children"
Please tell me this is joke!

If something horrible like this happened, I would immediatly stop watching the show which is already annoying me thanks to the "fabulous" duo.
Plus, both Calleigh and Delko will die.....too bad that Adam renewed his contract for s9 I just want to roll my eyes.

I truely believe that Emily should be more serious than she actually is while talking about this stuff 'cause she can't go on offering this romantic crap for a Crime Dram TV show

Enough with what Procter selfishly wants for HER character. Does she even realize that there are others on the show who deserve to be up front?

I have no interest in seeing E/C on my best day, let alone watch them have babies and a homelife and all the fake, contrived drama that would bring.

The romance is fake and contrived enough. Kill 'em both off and let's get back to business already!

I'm not interested in seeing Mr.and Mrs.Smith on CSI:Miami.Spin them off to their own show, and those that are interested can watch their homelife, kids and how they balance everything.

Emily is just sounding more and more selfish.Heaven forbid some of the other characters be focused on for a while.

Uh-oh, I see the tiny group of Eric-and-Calleigh-haters are at it again. So blinded by hate that they can't even appreciate the HUMOR in Emily's interview. Seriously, can't you guys give the negativity a rest? Kate O'Hare asked Emily about the Calleigh's romance with Eric because that's what most fans of the show want to know about. (Which will, in turn, increase traffic to the zap2it website). And super-long pages of hate-filled temper tantrums from a few bitter people won't change that. Personally, I'd love to see Calleigh & Eric get married next season. It would certainly be about time for this sizzling couple!

An E/C wedding would be great, IMO! I've been rooting for them to be a couple since season 1. As a Latina woman, I'm a little offended by some of the hate towards Eric and Cal. Some of the haters had no problem with romance when Cal was with John Hagen, Peter Elliot and Jake Berkely. Some of those people were even wanting Cal and Ryan Wolfe to get together (YUCK!). The only difference I can see between these 4 men and Eric Delko is that they're white and he's Latino. I can't help but think that the so-called "lack of chemistry" being touted by the haters is just a P.C. excuse for racial bias. I have a feeling that they wouldn't be so against E/C if Eric were white. Let the denials begin ...
