Conan O'Brien gets 'Idol' offer, still talking with FOX

conan-obrien-320.jpgConan O'Brien won't be part of the biggest reality show, but not because of any issues with FOX.

"American Idol" producer 19 Entertainment, separately from FOX, approached the comedian to participate in its "Idol Gives Back" special on Wednesday, April 21. Unfortunately, O'Brien won't be able to participate because his agreement with NBC keeps him from making TV appearances until May 1, says The Hollywood Reporter.

In the meantime, he's continuing to talk with FOX, although there's nothing solid on that front yet. If the two parties are able to work it out soon, the timing could be perfect for two reasons:

  • O'Brien's "Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television" tour just happens to be performing every day in May -- except for May 17, which is the date of FOX's upfront presentation in New York.
  • During O'Brien's tour, he could easily meet with FOX affiliate stations on a mini meet-and-greet tour that includes the top nine TV markets.

Of course, this is all speculation at this point.

O'Brien kicks off his "Legally Prohibited" tour on April 12 in Eugene, Oregon and continues to explore Twitter. His latest tweet:

"As Bieber sleeps, I grow stronger. Sleep, Bieber. Sleep."

Fox will wait until his "stand up" crashes and burns and then will move on to someone with actual talent.....

Oh...Poor Paul. Leno doesn't care about you Paul - all he cares about is money and feeling important.

Conan is hilarious (as evidenced by Smitty's comment) and will find a new show/direction to reveal that to people. NBC was just too afraid to give actual humor (the strength to take risks and push boundaries) a try and just wanted their numbers. Boo NBC.

Yea sold out shows its definately going to crash and burn. *sarcasm*

Paul i bet you are an old fart. Conan was great on the Tonight Show way better than Jay Leno. Leno is overrated and not funny at all.

I'd love to see Conan appear in an Idol audition in disguise as a ringer. It might actually make me watch that show.

leave paul alone, when the man is right, he is right.

i dont see how you can say conan was funny on the tonight show, to me jumping up and down and rubbing his nipple just was not funny, more like stupid.

Conan's shows have been selling out left and right. So much so that he has been adding second shows in several cities.

I think that speaks for itself.

When Coco returns to tv, he
will wipe the floor with Leno.

He'll take Simon Cowell's place on Idol yet.
