'American Idol's' Lilly Scott: 'My voting demographic probably doesn't even own a TV'

lilly-scott-american-idol-3.jpgEliminated "American Idol" contestant Lilly Scott has some frank things to say about her surprising elimination and not getting to be as indie on the show as she would've liked.

On her elimination:

I definitely have no regrets, but watching certain people make the Top 12 who had not done so well on the past three weeks and then going off the judges' comments on my three songs the past three weeks, I was frustrated. My fan base wasn't there even though the producers and judges seemed to love me and I felt like I was having a great run on the show.

Then again, my voting demographic probably doesn't even own a TV and if they do, they're out riding their bike or doing something more productive than watching TV, let alone "American Idol." I guess they just weren't voting ... I definitely think I got cut early. I knew I could've done really well next week on the Rolling Stones. Maybe I was just too off-the-wall for people or maybe it was my time to go out with a bang and keep my indie cred ... but the people I thought who were going to go home were completely different than the people who went home.

On her Patsy Cline song choice:
I picked that song because I love Patsy Cline, but then again, the "American Idol" voting demographic is mostly tweens and I'm sure they don't know who Patsy Cline is. That probably affected me but I'm staying true to my song choice.

Which artists she'd love to collaborate with and where she fits in in the music world:
Thom Yorke from Radiohead and Bjork. They're the king and queen of the Indie world. They're who I strive to be like as an artist. I definitely think I would fit in in the big summer festival circuit, Coachella and Bonaroo. I could have a whole different type of audience coming out to shows.

On what she really wanted to sing:
The producers swayed me against doing [songs I wanted to do] because they were by people even less well known than Sam Cooke or Patsy Cline. I did try to do "Nude" by Radiohead, which is their top-charting song but that didn't get cleared. I just figured I love classic rock and I was going to try to make that my niche this season because unfortunately indie and underground music isn't ready for the big breakthrough and that was reaffirmed by me getting voted off.

Final thoughts:

"American Idol" has been a great experience and I really appreciate meeting everyone. It has been a wonderful stepping stone to everything awesome that I'm going to do with my career.

She was definitely too "indie" for the show. She should've known that before auditioning though. I think she has a really nice tone to her voice, but she also sounds like a lot of other indie singers out there. Hopefully she can distinguish herself with some well-written songs.

I aplaud Lilly for trying to be all "indy" about herself, but I see 2 big problems here. Firstly, I don't know what in the hell the judges, orAmerica as a whole were hearing when everyone said she was so good, because based on her singing voice alone, it sounded really bad to me. She was pitchy, her voice sounded ugly... She had no star power, none of her performances made me want to hear more of her. That last performance told me all I needed to know about her. If she ever comes out with a CD you can bet I won't be buying it.
Secondly, she was incredibly ungreatful! She said, and I quote, "I just don't know what America wants to hear". Well, based on the votes, it's certainly not her. She was just so ungreatful...No thank yous to the people who voted for her, nothing. That's not how to win friends or enfluence people in the future. Yes, I know, I'm in the minority as far as these blogs go. Everyone just loved her but I just ain't hearing it. thank you America! You made the right choice!

AMERICANS ARE STUPID!!! OR DEAF!!!

Wow, is it just me or does she seem really full of herself? I thought that she was great, and I definitely think that she got sent home early, but saying that she wasn't chosen because the people who would normally vote for her are more "productive" than those who wouldn't and didn't is ridiculous and a little offensive.

Um, we know who Patsy Cline is. We know who Sam Cooke is, too. And the Beatles. And Ella Fitzgerald. And while your tributes to those great artists seemed edgy and interesting at first, we eventually caught on that you were a one-trick pony whose "edge" was really just screechiness. By week two of the semifinals, the emperor was definitely not wearing any clothes, and all my votes were going to Crystal and Siobhan -- who also aren't cut from anybody's mold, but aren't completely one-dimensional either. Thing is, you're really not too good for us, kiddo; you're just not too good.

Lilly OUT??????? Thats why you idiots were against Adam Lambert too...

I'm glad she's gone. I didn't think her voice was all that great and she seemed full of herself, and her comments have proved me right. Its funny she rips the show and its fans, noone would ever know who she was if it wasn't for this show! Eat some humble pie Lilly!

Lilly is one of the most original contestant ever on the Idol stage. She definitely knows who she is as an artist and by her performances, you could see how much she really loves music. She wasn't pitchy at all. She hits those bluenotes while making it current effortlessly which is really hard to do. She probably auditioned thinking that maybe she could open America's eyes that told them there are still real music out there. The problem is just like what she said, her voting demographic probably doesn't even own a TV and if they do, they're out riding their bike or doing something more productive than watching TV. Rare amazing talents like her doesnt belong on American Idol, they belong in the real big stages like Glastonbury or Reading festival. Any Pitchfork listener would definitely vote for her and any smart record producer will track her down and sign her up right away. In my opinion, this is just the right exposure for her, because now she could do everything she wanted to do without that American Idol bubble wrapped up around her neck that will diminish her real talent. If she's produced correctly, I bet you she will sell more records than any of those who made it to the top 12.

People who don't own TVs? So bums, then? I thought that was Crystal's demographic!

HEY WADDUP W/ AMERICA? LILLY WAS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE AND THATS NOT JUST THIS SEASON! AND TO THINK THAT PAIGE STAYED INSTEAD OF HER JUST BLOWS MY MIND! AND M, U TALK ABOUT 1 TRICK PONIES!!!
