'American Idol' goes back to the Lennon, McCartney songbook for Week 4

"American Idol" had to wait seven seasons before they got the rights to use the songs of Beatles greats John Lennon and Paul McCartney. And while Kristy Lee Cook proved that "Eight Days a Week" was not meant to be a country song, "I Saw Her Standing There" proved deadly for David Hernandez.
The Lennon/McCartney theme is back for Season 9, with the Top 9 performing songs from the duo next Tuesday (April 6).
Can't wait to see if anyone can come close to David Cook's take on "Eleanor Rigby."

The judges keep talking about the contestants staying "Current". How are they supposed to be current by singing Paul McCartney?
David Cook showed such massive personality & joy during his performance of E.R. I haven't seen anyone this year that can touch him for performance ability or talent!
uhm awful?? what show were you watching??? David Cook was the only one who managed to pull off a non-karaoke version of the Beatles. Which is why he was the only one with enough talent to win the whole show...

cook sucked then, he sucks now, he'll suck tomorrow. hasn't american idol proved that they don't have a clue about picking so called winners? allen, hicks, cook, sparks, studdard are some of the lamest winners ever. they will crown another lame winner soon. outside of clarkson and underwood, i'd be embarrassed to be known now as the winner of this contrived and godawful show.
The first Beatles week during Season 7 was probably the best single episode of American Idol outside of a finale, ever. This season will have a hard time topping it. Not only Cook's Eleanor Rigby, but Carly's Come Together, Brooke's Let It Be come to mind. Even Chikesie killed it. Beyond that, David Cook is the best thing this show has ever produced. I don't think they'll ever find another winner with that special combination of intelligence, creativity, vocal talent, musicianship, charisma, eloquence and class. I just read about his trip to Ethiopia with the UN and was deeply moved.
I will vote for anyone who has the balls to cover Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite. (It will never happen, unless that one kid with the crazy eyes decides to really go for broke.) Cook was good. At least he made it seem like he was part of an actual rock concert rather than a karaoke contest.
