'24': RIP Jack Bauer?
"24's" clock may be ticking down for the last time. There's been speculation that this eighth season could be the FOX drama's final season, and Variety has decided to sound the show's death knell.
The trade claims that the ax will probably fall within a day or two, especially since the show's cost has been rising and the ratings have been falling.
Oh sure, there's the possibility that other stations might pick "24" up, but with its production cost, it's sounding increasingly unlikely.
A better idea is the "24" feature film, which has been idly kicked around for years, but may have more traction if the show is canceled. As Zap2it reported earlier, Billy Ray's treatment sending Jack Bauer to Europe was received well -- both by Fox film execs and Kiefer Sutherland. High cost, long production schedule? Sounds like a movie to us.
The eighth season of "24" will reportedly end with a two-hour season finale on Monday, May 24 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Nooooooooooooooooo!!!! Worst news ever since The OC's departure!! No no please, don't let go this amazing show, damn it, FOX is doing it again ¬¬
Doing what again? This show has been on a decade now, and I enjoyed every season... but I have to admit, the formula is tired. 24 was great, but like all series (except Law and Order) must end.
I am so disappointed. I love 24.
24 was the last Fox show I would watch. Fox has cancelled so many shows that I loved I won't watch any of their new shows. I know they'll just get cancelled by the evil Fox executives.
I feel a little disappointed
Sad news. 24 may have had a long run and yes the best days may have already been done but... it's still a great show after all this time and Jack Bauer still kicks ***. I wouldn't have minded a season 9 at all.
24 has been the very best TV show on the air for almost a decade. I can see why some actors might be burnt out. You just can't keep up that pace year-in, year-out. Feature film would be excellent idea.
It's time the show leaves TV and go to the big screen. This is their chance to spread their wings, those big, beautiful, American Eagle wings. Fly high, Jack Bauer, fly high.
I agree the Dana storyline is definitely a snoozer, as is Rene. I love the show but wouldn't miss it if they pulled the plug.
I love 24 too but you have to admit that this season has been truly snooze-inducing - the Dana storyline killed it for me, and the lack of screen time for Jack and Chloe is criminal. Edgar must be turning over in his grave.
Worst news. 24 is my all time favorite show.
