'Ugly Betty' finale set for April

america-ferrera-ugly-betty-.jpgABC has set a series finale date for "Ugly Betty."

The show, which the network has decided to end after four seasons, will close its doors on Wednesday, April 14. That's 10 weeks from now; as the show has only seven episodes remaining on its order for the season, expect a few reruns mixed in with the last batch of originals.

ABC announced earlier this week that the mystery "Happy Town" would fill "Betty's" spot on Wednesday nights starting April 28; there's no word yet on what will take the week in between the "Betty" finale and "Happy Town's" premiere.

Series star America Ferrera has hinted that the end of the season might bring on new relationships for the plucky heroine, "or old relationships that become new and kind of change a little bit." That led to increased speculation that Betty might end up with Daniel (Eric Mabius), similar to the controversial ending of "Betty La Fea," the telenovela on which the show is based.

Weak ratings led to "Ugly Betty's" demise. The show has averaged just a little over 5 million viewers a week this season and didn't improve when it moved from Friday to Wednesday in January.

I used to love "Ugly Betty". at least during the first season I did. But mid-way through the second season I stopped watching it and realized after a while that I didn't miss it. Does "Ugly Betty" still have a decent audience? Do people still watch?

Tim, you're an idiot. Plain and simple.

When idiots move the show all around it affects the ratings. Big suprise there. Nothing left to watch on garbage ABC

ABC definitely killed the show, and IMO had NO intentions of keeping it around after this season no matter what the ratings.

This was clearly evidenced by the move to Wednesday at the primo (sarcasm) time of 11 pm. Even the most loyal of fans have to work in the morning...prime time indeed.

Each year I am finding myself reading more books and watching less TV, decent shows like Ugly Betty are few and far between.

its a good thing they are going to air it in april, because jay leno won't be on to beat it in the ratings like it did last night.

I wish Bravo or Lifetime would pick the show up.

I liked the recent episode and all the ones since coming back to Wednesday.

Too bad, it was too little too late.

Ugly Betty's plight reminds me of the type of situation a show falls into (quite by accident) where you suddenly find yourself out of favor with the people that make decisions (i.e, suits).

(Heroes being the exception to that rule, since God knows it should've been cancelled a long time ago but, even with worse numbers than Journeyman when THAT show was cancelled, it's still ON!)

The move to LA, the writer's strike, the move to Friday, the short 'high ratings back on Weds, or else' period to regain missing viewers long gone - all this and other factors contributed to the end of UB.

To point and focus on just ONE thing is a gross oversimplification, to say the least.

I'll miss her.

...Rick Porter, the ending for Yo soy Betty la fea, the original colombian version, was never controversial, as it was set up from the very beginning that Betty was in love with her boss, "Don Armando"; after mistreating her, he falls in love with her and they end up together; again, it was not controversial...This is the 2nd time I read something here on zap2it deeming as copntroversial the ending for the colombian Betty; way off base...

It's the studio's fault they moved the show from Thursday to a dead night on Fridays. No wonder viewers lost interest.

UGLY BETTY has gone downhill ever since the accountant character Henry left the show with the ridiculous plotline of him impregnating his former girlfriend and thus putting an end to the Betty/Henry romance.
