TV ratings: 'Mentalist' leads CBS Thursday; 'Bones' strong again

simon-baker-mentalist-320.jpgFast National ratings for Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010

"The Mentalist" scored Thursday's biggest audience on what was a somewhat soft night for network TV overall. An exception was "Bones," which had another strong outing for FOX.

CBS led the way Thursday night with 12.5 million viewers and a 7.8 rating/13 share in households. FOX (9.85 million, 5.9/9) came in second, a little bit ahead of ABC (9 million, 6.0/10). NBC's 5.2 million viewers and 3.3/5 were good enough for fourth, while The CW (3.2 million, 2.0/3) got a solid performance from "The Vampire Diaries."

ABC grabbed the top spot -- barely -- in adults 18-49 with a 3.1 rating. CBS and FOX tied for second at 3.0, followed by NBC at 2.3. The CW drew a 1.5.

Nice of ABC to show up!! Another night ABC thought they have "owned" but now find themselves in 3rd place. What a surprise (NOT)!! What a useless network! Modern Family is the saving grace for this pathetic network

Wow, that awesome, great, fantastic ground breaking "The Deep End" did really well didn't it. ABC quit promoting pathetic shows as if they are great. People are not stupid. they know garbage when they see it.

Fringe was great last night its just too bad its on a 8 week break. Oh well at least LOST is back in full effect which is good new for everyone! NBC needs to find a stronger comedy to put behind The Office I know 30 Rock is a media darling but the ratings just aren't strong enough to be behind The Office every week it brings the 9 oclock hour down. btw Tim stop trying to sell your overpriced DVD's as you said people are not stupid!!

wow supernatural doing terrible now

"Soft Night" is becoming a constant in the network business. :(

The Mentalist is fulfilling my prediction of becoming #1 on Thursday, but I can't say I'm super-impressed by its overall numbers.

Certainly, CBS would benefit from a much better lead-in to the entire night.

Bones and Vampire Diaries seems to benefit from the weakness of the other networks at 8, especially NBC and ABC (although to be fair the Vampire Diaries bump may be a measurement error as its ratings are coming from a very low basis).

Fringe continues to underperform (dgh this is for you! ;) ) and FOX would be well inspired to find a replacement to team with the unexpectedly stronger Bones.

At NBC, The Office is doing as poorly as Fringe. Enough said (but look for the press to keep talking about The Office as if it were cultural phenomenon).

@AaronR; I sadly agree with you on the sad state of affairs zap2it is enabling on this board. :(
Generally, NBC doesn't need something to team with The Office, it needs an entirely new Thursday lineup. There is nothing to build on at this point.

ABC'S stock price fell again, it is so low they may not get through the summer. I have heard the network execs for programming will be fired and new blood brought brought in. Bout time for this drowning network. Most all the ABC shows will be canceled for next fall. They have to follow the CBS mold to be get back in the game and I predict that is what they will do. Next fall you will see more crime shows modled after the crime shows on CBS. If not they will surely fold up the tent and delacre Bankruptcy.

I love the NBC Thursday line-up, but it's not really working. But because nothing really works for them, they'll probably keep those shows on forever. I also like The Deep End, but that will be canceled soon. I wish it was on NBC, then it would stay on no matter how bad it did.

Fringe is actually slowly improving from its usual fall 3.7 5.9 mill viewers, its a great creative show in a very competitive time slot.

Grey's was good last nite - lots of grey situations and lots of emotions - for everybody. Mark is still an A-hole with his double standard, although I must admit, Lexie was not smart hooking up with Alex, even if she was drunk. Oh, and Christina really showed her true self - the Queen B she is. But Owen is very selfish if he tries to keep sabotaging her ambitions. What is it he doesn't get - why, the B even "gave" him away to Teddy, in order to get more surgery time - how sad is that..?? If I were Owen, I would kick her out of my life for that Betrayal. Derek was very good last nite - he showed compassion and caring, and he made a very good Chief. The Chief self was impetuous like a child who's been grounded. But all that makes for a good primetime soap, I guess.
