Super Bowl: Carrie Underwood's sound check National Anthem better

carrie-underwood-natl-anthem-320.jpgCarrie Underwood's practice National Anthem was much better than the actual performance.

Did you see Carrie do the Star-Spangled Banner at the Super Bowl? Looking like an extra from Dollywood? It was a little rough. We all know Carrie can sing, so we were a little surprised when her National Anthem didn't floor us.

However, based on this video of her sound check, we now have to chalk it up to nerves or maybe she couldn't hear herself as well with a stadium full of people. Either way, we wanted to put this out there because the sound check National Anthem? Nailed it. And we do give her props for singing it live because it is NOT an easy song to sing.

What do you think? Do you prefer sound check Carrie or Dollywood Carrie? We love Carrie either way, but the relaxed-plaid-shirt-in-the-rain Carrie is the Carrie we love most.

i think carrie was very nervous, she said in an interview before the bowl that she was very nervous and didnt want to forget the words because so many people will be tuning in, i think she sounded amazing i have heard her sing it better, however the fact that she went out there and gave it her all,i have to give her credit for her courage, and she is the american idol so you know she can sing. carrie is an excellent singer but she's human sometimes the nerves get the best of you, even amazing flawless singers like carrie!!..i still love her she's soooooo beautifull too by the way!!

As is typical of most "singers" today, this performance was woefully overdone; it's all too apparent that if a "singer" can't engage in vocal histrionics on stage nowadays, they don't know what to do.

"I Blame Mariah," i agree 100%. it's so nice to hear someone else say this.

They couldn't hear themselves. The first thing Queen Latifah did was yank the monitor feed out of her ear, which probably means it was actually giving her the wrong signal. In a big open stadium your voice would only be audible to you in bad delay through the stadium speakers. In Miami today, there's probably a sound man looking for a new job.
