Presidents Day poll: Who's your favorite TV president?
Monday is Presidents Day, so while you're taking the day off -- or at least not taking time to read the mail you won't get -- we hope you'll cast a vote in our straw poll. The question is simple: Who's your favorite fictional TV president? The past 10 years has been something of a golden age for presidents-as-characters on TV. "The West Wing," obviously, was set in the White House, but "24" has given us several memorable POTUSes, and there have been several others too. TV presidents are also a more diverse lot than their real-life counterparts: The list below includes two African-American men and four women in addition to a few white guys.
(We opted not to include "The West Wing's" Matt Santos and "24's" John Keeler and Noah Daniels as their respective shows didn't spend much time on them once they took office.)
Here are the contenders, in alphabetical order:
MacKenzie Allen, "Commander in Chief": An independent, Allen (Geena Davis) ran as vice president to help her Republican boss in the polls (remember: It's fiction), then took office midway through the term when he died of complications from a stroke.
Jed Bartlet, "The West Wing": The longest-serving TV president of recent years. Viewers got to see nearly all of Bartlet's (Martin Sheen) two terms in the White House; the show began about a year into his tenure.
Charles Logan, "24": The personification of the oily politician on several seasons of "24," Logan (Gregory Itzin) looked a little like Richard Nixon and was plagued by indecision and paranoia at first, before being revealed as the man behind season 5's conspiracy.
David Palmer, "24": When we first meet Palmer (Dennis Haysbert), he's a U.S. senator running for president -- an office he holds in the show's second and third seasons. He decides not to run for re-election after one term, although he's a presence in season 4 and assassinated at the beginning of season 5.
Wayne Palmer, "24": David Palmer's younger brother (played by DB Woodside) is elected following the Logan fiasco but doesn't get to serve long: He suffers a cerebral hemorrhage and slips into a coma. Vice President Noah Daniels (Powers Boothe) becomes acting president.
Caroline Reynolds, "Prison Break": The most pure-evil chief executive in this group, Reynolds is vice president at the start of "Prison Break" and soon revealed to be involved in the conspiracy that framed Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). She later poisons her boss and becomes president.
Laura Roslin, "Battlestar Galactica": Roslin (Mary McDonnell) is secretary of education of the Twelve Colonies at the time of the Cylon attack, and despite being way down the line of succession, she becomes president after everyone ahead of her is killed in the attack.
Allison Taylor, "24": The current president on "24," Taylor (Cherry Jones) has faced numerous challenges in her time in office, including an assault on the White House and having to turn in her own daughter for ordering the death of Jonas Hodges (Jon Voight).
So who's your favorite?

David Palmer, David Palmer and David Palmer. Greatest TV president ever.
And Sherry Palmer is the greatest crazy first lady EVER. Martha Logan was a fantastic first lady as well, but Sherry was THE BEST.
Caroline Reynolds. Even though she turned out to just be a puppet ruler for The Company (who were pulling the strings all along), she still poisoned the president to take over. I have to admit that I never watched any of the other shows though.
David Palmer. Plus, he went on to become a very successful special ops soldier on The Unit :)
David Palmer is my choice - I never saw West Wing, but I still believe David Palmer would be my choice either way - he was amazing - and so charismatic, dare I say sexy - that voice - and a darn good prez to boot
@TJ Spyke - you just sent me down memory lane with Sherry Palmer - dang that seems so long ago - almost 10 years - unbelievable - she was amazing - great performance - great character
David Palmer was great in 24, and I like Allison Taylor too. But the best is Jed Bartlet, no contest. Martin Sheen was phenomenal in the role, I haven't seen many better performances than the one he did in the season two finale 'Two Cathedrals'.
Laura Roslin. The other President's on that list had it EASY. All they had to do was say, "Yes," and "No" and inflect a little malcontent now and then. I watched all those shows. I remember all those performances. The only one that made me think, "Wow, this is brilliant," was watching Mary McDonnell play the ONLY political leader in a fleet of the LAST remaining survivors of a human holocaust. Out of billions, there was only 40,000 or so, and she had to keep them all together. Not mention, find them a new planet/galaxy to live in AND, make sure they all got there in one piece, while their enemies were close behind. She was also dying of cancer and had to be selfless because she wasn't getting anything out of it. For those of you who never watched BSG she missed some of the best performances on television. But since the other President's on that list were so much more popular (because they weren't on a Sci-fi show) and the Academy shuns sci-fi, Mary McDonnell never won not even ONE Emmy. Goes to show you 'popular' performances and 'outstanding' performances are two different things. She gets my vote.
I would vote for BILL PULLMAN - who is in Independence Day - he is the best looking, sexiest Prez who is not only a great decision maker, but a warrior and a patriot to boot. I'll take him any day over any other.
I liked George C. Scott in "Mr. President" the best.
personally mackenzie allen is by far my favorite
