Pilots: 'La Femme Nikita' casts Maggie Q; Roselyn Sanchez gets 'Cutthroat'
Pilot season is getting more colorful.Maggie Q and Roselyn Sanchez have been cast as the ethnically diverse leads in two major pilots, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Maggie Q, who is half Vietnamese, is in negotiations to play the title character in "La Femme Nikita," which The CW seem to be calling just "Nikita," a reboot of the French assassin film. Previous actresses who've played the Nikita role include Anne Parillaud, Bridget Fonda and Peta Wilson.
The new series will center on a new Nikita being trained as a killer when the original one goes rogue.
Maggie Q has a good resume for playing a bad-ass action star. She's appeared in "Mission: Impossible III," "Live Free or Die Hard" and a number of Hong Kong action flicks.
Sanchez, who's known from her work on "Without a Trace," will play a soccer mom and widow in Beverly Hills who also happens to run an international drug cartel in "Cutthroat" for ABC.
Sanchez, born in Puerto Rico, takes the role that was actually written for a Latina.

Does anyone else realize that the plot of the new show "Cutthroat" is exactly like the show Weeds?
I'm a pretty good compass when it comes to casting. For instance, I saw nothing good about the 90210 and Melrose casts. It was horrible.
My first reaction to this Maggie Q thing? W-H-O? Then, upon closer examination: N-O.
I just don't get it. Casting is everything, and when the viewers aren't IMMEDIATELY INTRIGUED (as with Ian Somerhalder in VD), you've lost the war before the battle ever begins. That's just fact. This chick, this show...won't fly, dudes.
I'll take "Nancy Botwin" and "Weeds" over that ripoff on ABC any day of the week. ABC must have a really crappy set of pilots to chose from. They have completely stolen Jenji Kohan should sue.
I agree that the casting for CW's La Femme Nikita is poor... and that "Cutthroat" sounds like a tweaked version of "Weeds".
