Pilots: Jay Harrington goes from 'Ted' to 'Nathan'

jay-harrington-320.jpg"Better Off Ted" star Jay Harrington is taking the title role in another comedy, NBC's pilot "Nathan vs. Nurture." "Scrubs" star Donald Faison is also moving on to a CBS comedy.

Harrington's casting is the latest sign that "Ted," which drew weak ratings in its second season, is headed for cancellation. His co-star Andrea Anders has also taken a pilot (ABC's "Mr. Sunshine"), and though in both cases they're in second position to "Ted," few expect it to return at this point.

"Nathan vs. Nurture" centers on a surgeon (Harrington) who was adopted as a baby and meets his biological dad and underachieving brothers 35 years later, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It comes from "Just Shoot Me" and "Aliens in America" veterans David Guarascio and Moses Port.

Other casting news:

- Faison, who's played Dr. Chris Turk on "Scrubs" for the past nine seasons, will star in CBS' buddy-cop show "The Odds," the HR says. He'll play a newly promoted homicide detective, who's taking over for another detective (Australian actor Sullivan Stapleton) who's just been stripped of his supervisory role.

- "The O.C." veteran Autumn Reeser is joining Michael Chiklis in ABC's "No Ordinary Family," about a family discovering it has superpowers. Reeser will play a lab assistant who works for the mother, who hasn't been cast yet. Reeser guested on "Human Target" this week and has also recurred on "Entourage."

- Elsewhere, Ben Rappaport will play the lead in NBC's comedy "Outsourced"; Natalie Martinez ("Death Race," "Sons of Tucson") has joined ABC's crime drama "187 Detroit"; and Todd Stashwick ("Heroes," "The Riches") has been cast in ABC's Dana Gould comedy.

Oh boy! MORE cop and doctor shows on the way. No wonder Americans have abandoned network TV in droves.

Sorry to see Better Off Ted to go.

I knew it wouldn't last.

Better Off Ted. I will miss you. You were ahead of your time and above expectations for what great TV should be and I'm sorry not enough people recognized or knew about you.

Sigh. 'sac' said it best. G-bye Ted.

Add mine to the collective "sigh." I swear I got more laughs out of this show than any other the past two "seasons."

I don't buy DVDs of shows, but I'd consider buying this show if it comes out on DVD. It would be nice to just bust it out every once in a while and watch an ep or two. It's one of those charming little shows that leaves you in a better mood after you've watched it.

So long, BOT. They (TV viewer s) never knew what they missed.
