New 'Lost' promo: Brain-liquefyingly intriguing
Look, we understand the desire of many "Lost" fans not to be spoiled about Tuesday's (Feb. 2) season premiere. Which is why we won't discuss specifics of the promo ABC aired Sunday night until a ways down in this post. But wowzers, is there a lot to digest in that 60 seconds.
ABC lifted the veil on season 6 over the weekend, showing the first hour of the season premiere to a select group of reporters and bloggers and a big gathering of fans in Hawaii. Then on Sunday, the general public got its first view of the season via a one-minute spot that ran during "Desperate Housewives." With the premiere now out in the ether, ABC lifted the lockdown on new footage 48 hours before the premiere.
The promo is embedded below. I'm going to discuss a few things I noticed afterward, but first as regards our spoiler policy: The reason some "Lost"-related material appears here and not in Zap2it's "Lost" blog is that the space Ryan McGee runs (fantastically well, in my opinion) has been cordoned off as a spoiler-free zone. He probably won't be reading this post, and if you're absolutely staying away from anything about the new season until after Tuesday night, you'll probably want to be jumping off right about here as well .
But as a news site, we're not going to ignore things like casting updates, publicly announced character returns or this promo. It's something ABC doesn't mind us seeing, obviously, so to our minds it's fair game. (Also, I'd like to thank those of you who commented on the post about the opening scene of season 6 for not being too spoiler-y. It's much appreciated.)
OK, so on to the video (last chance to turn away):
My goodness, that's a lot to take in. I can't begin to put it all in context, at least in terms of how all the events shown will play out over the season, but a few things I did notice:
The gang's all here. There are multiple shots of Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sawyer, Locke and Jin -- those present at the time of the Incident -- on the Island. What that means in re: the detonation of Jughead? Your guess is as good as mine, or probably better, because I can't decide which of several things it might be.
Temple time. We get our first glimpse of the exterior of what I'm assuming is the Others' temple (after seeing the protective wall around it and one of its underground chambers last season).
New characters. We get our first glimpse of characters played Hiroyuki Sanada and John Hawkes (whose character name, Lennon, is fitting given his appearance). They appear to be connected to the temple or the statue, and Sanada's character does not look happy with Sayid.
Smokey is mad. It's hard to make out just who the smoke monster is tossing around, but based on the clothes and the hair my guess is Ben.
Jack is upset. About his name being written somewhere. Yeah, that can't be good.
There's a lot more in the promo, to be sure, so tell me what you saw and what you think it means.

I think this article was well written. I really appreciate the spoiler warning and why this is not in the lost blog.
Thanks!
LOST SUCKS! Heroes is so much more entertaining. The writing, story and characters, are well beyond what Lost has to offer.
@HRG:
The ratings for "Heroes" has plummeted largely due to the fact that the writing, story and characters have fallen apart.
I was a 'Heroes' fan for awhile, but am no longer watching. I will be watching every minute of 'Lost'.
No Juliet! Argh!
Why have the Lost Gods forsaken me?
juliet is busy with 'V'. i wonder if they killed her off?
Your funny HRG:)
Juliet HAS been to Hawaii several times during filming this season, so she's definitely in it, just don't know if only flashbacks or what.........
As intrigued as I am about what this final year will offer (I've avoided spoilers of all kind regarding what's going happening this season), more than anything, I just want the characters' arcs to come to a satisfying resolution. Whenever I've been disappointed in the series, it's not because of revelations regarding the show's mythos, but with how certain characters have concluded their arcs. As much as I love the island mythology, the characters are why this is my favourite series of all time.

I think we're going to find out who Adam & Eve are...I think that's who they flashed to. I think we'll also find out concrete answers on
- black & white stones
- smokey
- the island's origins
Also - was that Desmond falling off of the cliff?
I wish people who comment on blogs would learn basic grammar. There is a difference between YOUR (possessive for "you") and YOU'RE (contraction of "you are"). Yes, I'm talking to you, Stacy.
And it does make a difference. It makes whatever you write look worthless.
Don't worry about commenting to this -- I won't be back -- obviously you all are 12 or younger.
