'Lost' fans just say no to leaked premiere
When ABC screened the first half of the "Lost" season premiere to thousands of fans over the weekend, it was inevitable that a few people would record the screening and post it online. What hasn't been typical, though, has been the reaction. Instead of flocking to it in search of spoilers, fans have been resolutely not watching the show online ahead of its Tuesday (Feb. 2) premiere.
Anecdotally, at least, there's strong evidence that fans are all the way on board with "Lost" executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof and ABC, which until last weekend had kept footage from the new season almost completely under wraps. When footage did leak over the weekend, it did not cause a massive rush to video-sharing sites.
As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, the more prevalent attitude was summed up by a poster online: "Why spoil it now? I'd rather watch it in hi-def and surround sound than ruin the surprise and watch some (low-quality) video."
To which we say: Bravo. The TV audience was already starting to fragment when "Lost" premiered in 2004, and it's only splintered more in the time since then. But it's sort of heartening to know that fans of a show are still looking forward to parking themselves in front of their sets Tuesday night and watching as a large group. (It'll also be interesting to see how that affects the ratings. My guess is that the premiere will be up maybe 5 percent to 10 percent from the 11.35 million who watched last year's debut.)
What are your thoughts on watching the season premiere? Are you seeking it out or waiting till Tuesday night?

I was incredibly annoyed when the first 4 minutes came out and furious when the whole hour leaked just because of the uprise in potential spoiling. With only 21.5 hours left to go though, i still have no clue what to expect and i am incredibly glad about that. bring on the HDTV/Surround sound!
WHY RUIN THE GRAND ASPECT OF THE SHOW ON A MONITOR...
THIS IS LOST...
I'VE INTRODUCED THIS SHOW TO PEOPLE LIKE A CRACK DEALER...
LET THEM WATCH SEASON 1 AND KNOW THEY WILL COMEBACK FOR SEASON 2...
IM READY TO FIND OUT SOME ANSWERS WHICH WILL ONLY CREATE MORE QUESTIONS...
BRING ON THE LAST SEASON OF LOST !!!
I've been keeping away from anything related to LOST and the final season. I'm waiting till I see it and it's taking a lot of will power to not dive in and find things out.
of course, i'm waiting. i'm not even tempted to seek out spoilers. duh!
CAN..NOT..WAIT!
Well... maybe not parked out tonight. But DVR will be all warmed up and ready to skip all the commercials (sorry sponsors!) and I'll be starting it as soon as I get home from work on Wednesday.
Raina, just so you know: Viewers like you are completely KILLING television. As long as you're okay with that, just keep zapping. What will result is more cheap reality crap, few to zero quality scripted shows, and no more free TV.
Would it really kill you to sit thru a few sponsor messages?
Jason, actually, since DVR came in to play, ratings are no longer based on just who watches it at the time it is on. Ratings are now based on who watches it at the time it airs, PLUS anyone who watches teir recorded program within the first week after the show airs. This is why actual ratings cannot be determined until a week or so after the show airs. The ratings shown the next day are only estimates.
Either way, I'm staying away from anything that might have spoilers, but enjoy reading interviews with cast and such...
I'm hyped and ready for Lost tonight! I'm usually a sucker for spoilers but I purposely avoided any this time.
Plan to turn off my cell phone and veg out in front of the TV for a few hours.
This would only happen for TV as it's FREE! Any leaked movie that you would pay for would be downloaded in the millions despite poor quality as Wolverine was.
