'FlashForward': David Goyer out as showrunner
"FlashForward" is going through another behind-the-scenes shakeup, with co-creator David S. Goyer stepping aside as showrunner. The ABC series, which premiered to big ratings but tailed off during its fall run, is in the midst of an on-air hiatus and will return March 18. Goyer will still be "involved" in the show and retain an executive producer credit, the showbiz trades report, but he won't be the person in charge of the day-to-day operations.
Goyer's departure is the second showrunner change "FlashForward" has made in its short life. Mark Guggenheim joined the series after its pilot but left in October, ceding the reins to Goyer. ABC hasn't named a replacement for Goyer yet.
The news can be taken a couple ways. The more charitable view is that ABC still really believes in the show's potential (including DVR usage, it's averaging 10.4 million viewers and a 3.5 rating in adults 18-49) and wants to get it exactly right.
The other, less rosy one is that the show is still struggling to find its creative feet (despite the much-discussed series bible Goyer and Braga put together at the outset), and ABC needs to make a change stat or risk losing the show after just one season. They're two sides of the same coin, really, but it's obvious from this move that the network felt like something with "FlashForward" wasn't where it needed to be.

What if Goyer is just stepping aside as showrunner, because he is also working on other projects, and can't spend all of his time running the show?
And so it begins.
I won't dare predict the future but, for me, when this happens to a series it 'can' be a sign of the beginning of the end for Fast Forward.
I hope to be proven wrong.
NOT a good sign.
I think it's time to call it quits.
I think I have lost interest in this show and not because it's horrible but because these long periods of hiatus' usually kill a show for me unless I get hooked (like 'Fringe').
'FlashForward' is still at the stage of not quite a semi-favourite like 'Heroes' or 'Smallville' and nowhere near my super-faves, Lost, The Simpsons and 24.
Gotta agree with Paul - hiatus equals death. I enjoyed the show at first, but I've practically forgotten everything about it since it last aired.
To be honest, I think a new showrunner could HELP, because the show was not drawing us into the mythology as well as LOST does. Some better plotting might improve it.
But SHAME ON ABC for airing a few episodes and then making us wait months for new ones. Just like V...
long break's kill shows...
"long break's" what? What belongs to the long break?
In English, using an apostrophe and the letter "s" with a noun indicates possession, not plurality.
But, then, most Americans can't write above a fifth-grade level, as is evidenced by JMaG.
LOL @ Dave. Love it!!
Dave again,
Using an apostrophe and the letter "s" could also represent a contracted form of a noun with a helping verb. I know that, in the case you suggested, it does not; but, if you feel that you need to give English lessons (above a fifth-grade level), I suggested that you also brush up on your own grammar knowledge.
