'Desperate Housewives' exclusive: Searching for a new 'Edie'
We know many of you "Desperate Housewives" fans have missed the lovable trampy-ness of Nicollette Sheridan's Edie Britt character on Wisteria Lane.If you do, we have great news: The show's producers miss her energy, too.
Executive producer Bob Daily told Zap2it exclusively that the show is currently searching for a new "Edie" type to kick up dust in Fairview.
"We agree that [Edie] was a great person to have on The Lane," Daily says. "The sort of vixen troublemaker. That's a great person to have on a television show."
For now, the new vixen will stir up trouble short term this year and the producers are considering making the character a recurring part of next season.
So, what kind of actress are they looking for? Daily says she'll definitely not be a "Nicollette clone."
"I think Nicollette was so great as that sort of blonde bombshell," Daily explains. "I think we'd probably not go in that direction again just because we've had that."

If Melrose Place isn't smart enough to resuscitate Sydney Andrews (again,) Desperate Housewives should snatch up Laura Leighton. She is an amazing, beautiful, talented actress, who can play 'vixen troublemaker' like no other. I think Doug Savant would agree.
How about some Shannon Doherty action up in Wisteria Lane? That would rock!!
Vanessa Williams will be free soon - with Ugly Betty sadly going away. Wisteria Lane could use a little color and spice, and Vanessa has proven she plays "bitchy" very well!
Ooh, Vanessa Williams would be nice. But Heather Locklear would also be good. I bet they'll go brunette this time, though...

You could go for an older rich woman and cast Michelle Pfeiffer if she'd do it.
I would soooo lovvveeee to see the awesome Linda Gray (Dallas/Models Inc) cast as the new vixen bombshell. She may be a little old according to Hollywoods ridiculous standards, but she is still gorgeous and always so much fun to watch.
She could be Dana Delanys older/bitchy/slutty sister.
I also knew when they killed off Edie and let Nicollette Sheridan go that they were making a massive massive mistake and would come to regret. I always thought she should have been made a regular and appeared in every episode, not killed off.
I kinda felt like the Desp Housewives "Jumped The Shark" when they killed off Edie for a quick and easy ratings grab ...
For a while there, it felt like Katherine was sort of crowding that role with Edie, except she had tension with Bree rather than Susan. I sort of thought Katherine would fully move into that spot once Edie kicked it, but they choose to go in a different direction with her, although she *did* obviously have her tension with Susan.
Personally, I wouldn't mind them just turning Angie into more of a troublemaker. I like her character, and it's not like she's particularly close with any of the neighbors as it is. I'm guessing, in normal Desperate Housewives fashion, she'll be moved off the street by the end of the season so another mysterious neighbor can move in though.
I just hope they can make the new character not feel like a clone of Edie. She needs to be sufficiently different enough to not just feel like they've recast the role.
