Casting Call: Katherine Heigl lands Plum role, Tim Robbins turns on 'Green Lantern'
Kat
herine Heigl is about to take on one of the most beloved characters in contemporary fiction.
The "Grey's Anatomy" star has signed on for the lead in "One for the Money," Columbia Pictures' film adaptation of the first book in Janet Evanovich's popular series, reports Variety.
Heigl will play Stephanie Plum, a recently unemployed lingerie buyer who turns to bounty hunting for a living. The spunky bounty hunter is single, owns a pet hamster and often relies on her family to help her with her job. The book series is rather extensive, so it's possible the franchise could be extended for several films, depending on "One's" reception.
The character in the books is often described as having brown hair, so it's a possibility that Heigl may have to dye her dirty blonde 'do. Reese Witherspoon had been previously attached to play the lead, and there had been buzz about Sandra Bullock or Anne Hathaway taking the plum role.

WOOO!!!! I'm very excited they are finaly doing a movie based on these books I love, love, love them! And I'm so happy Kathrine Hiegl is doing it, I heard a couple years ago that Sandra Bullock might do it, but this is just as great.
I take it this is going to be a TV Movie..?? Good move - if the movie is a success, they can make more and have a franchise - since Evanovich wrote - at this point - 14 books with Plum at the helm. And I wouldn't be surprised if she'll produce even more... So, there you go - lots of pasture to graze on, Movie people.
Love the books, but she is not the right actress to play Stephanie Plum. I'll stick to the books.
Bad actress gets to play a beloved titular character. Horrid horrid actress. Stick to the books!
Love the books and think the choice of Katherine Heigl is TERRIBLE, no one is less deserving to play that role than that ungrateful wench. What a HUGE dissapointment.
This is awful! Heigl is a terrible choice to play Plum, a really fun character. There is no prominent actress in her age range working today who is as stiff, brittle and seriously unfunny as Heigl. What a disappointment.
OOPS... Correction - I just checked Amazon, and Evanovich wrote 16 books for this particular series, so far... There you go, even more material to pick from. Not to mention her PLUM series - she wrote a bunch of those, too - Plum Lucky, Plum Lovin', Between the Plums, Plum Spooky... etc. WOWEEE...
Whoa, whoa - why is everyone so down on Kate Heigl..?? She's a decent sort, love her movies, starting with the Love Comes Softly duo, and the others, Knock-up, 27 Dresses, Ugly Truth, etc. Give her a chance already - she might turn out to be really good - she's really NOT as bad an actress as everybody claim - I, for one, like her.
Plus - Sandra Bullock is too big a name to play a TV series - so far, she's only been in big screen movies - not faded enough to hit downward like TV movies - so, that's reaching it - to get a Star on a TV thingy. Same goes for Anne Hathaway, even if she's not as big as Sandra, but big enough at this point. Heigl seems to be a good choice, since she's straddling both the big screen and the TV venue. Let's just wait and see, shall we... Why judge something before it even starts..??
This is not a telivision show or a television movie. It's going to theaters.
