Betty White may visit 'Saturday Night Live' ... with a little help

betty-white-sag-2010-320.jpgBetty White fans, cross your fingers.

The comedic octogenarian may be heading to "Saturday Night Live" after all, but not alone.

White would be joining other funny ladies in a proposed special "Women of Comedy" episode that would distribute the burden across many shoulders, according to an EW report. Former "SNL" stars like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Molly Shannon are possible names that may join the special as well.

We think this is a great idea. Although Betty is funny enough to keep us entertained for more than the alotted 90 minutes, we are still aware that she's 88 years old. We want her comedy to flourish and continue, not put stress on her!

And as long as we're putting together a dream lineup, Zap2it would like to suggest Sandra Bullock -- with whom White has incredible comedic chemistry (our fave moment of the SAG awards) -- and raunchy Sarah Silverman. We think Betty could take her in a who's funnier/more taboo contest.

NBC would neither confirm nor deny the report about the special. Reps for Fey, Poehler and Shannon could not be reached.

Do you like the idea of this special? Who would you like to add to the dream team?

Betty White is a national treasure. I would absolutely love to see her on SNL.

wow i hope she don't drop dead on live tv

Betty White started her career on the old days of live television, not to mention her time on "The Golden Girls" was done before a live audience. Going to perform on "SNL" would be like fitting into a comfortable pair of jeans to her. And as for a team dream of comedic actresses for this special, have to have the likes of Cloris Leachman and Carol Burnett, both who have worked with Betty White and can be pretty irreverent and could teach the SNL cast a few things:)

She has earned the right to host ALONE

Joe, of course she has earned the right to host alone. The point is she may not be able to handle it due to her age. She's a very old lady! Nonetheless, I've always loved Betty White and I hope she's around for a while longer.

I think first they should ask Betty how she feels doing it alone, Cloris Leachman did Dancing With The Stars and she is in her 80's. If Betty wants others to join, have Carol Burnett,Sandra Bullock, Cloris Leachman.

Wow! Betty White, why did this take so long to do. She is GREAT!!! I agree she should just be the only host, but I understand she is no spring chicken so the concept of the woman of comedy is great but there have been so many greats, where do you draw the line. Also remember that a 90 minute SNL is only really about 60 minutes after commercials. I think they should do about a 3 hour prime time special which could feature several big name guests. Would they have a musical guest and if so who would it be? I've been thinking about it and the first one to pop into mind was Julie Brown (The Home Coming Queens Got A Gun) any other ideas? Also some other names to co host are Mary Tyler Moore, Amy Sedaris, Phyllis Diller, if she is able and alive. Definitely Carol Burnett and a tribute to the greatest of all Lucille Ball. Also some other SNL Alum like Jan Hooks Loraine Newman just to name a couple. Love the whole idea could be great, but don't sell us short.

It's NBC. So of course they'll muck it up.

I like the idea of the funny ladies hosting group but why not have Betty White in with her contemporaries if they aren't going to show her the respect of actually asking if she can handle it alone?

Betty White, Carol Burnett, Phyllis Diller -- that would be a dream team of classic lady hosts.

Of course "SNL" is generally more about hip than actual funny.

I think it is a great idea to bring Betty White to SNL. I think we should ask her past co-stars. How about Mary Tyler Moore (Mary), (Rhoda) or Ed Asner (Lou)...etc. Make a reunion out of it too? I think she might like that.

special sounds great, i would watch (will it be live?)so i think she deserves to go "Live From NY" at 11:30p.
