'Avatar' sets North American box office records

avatar-02-320_001.jpg"Avatar" had a very good day Tuesday, Feb. 2.

Not only did the James Cameron-directed film snag nine Oscar nominations, but it also passed the domestic box-office record set by "Titanic," taking in more than $601.1 million in North American ticket sales, according to studio estimates.

That makes the "Avatar" domination complete. It was already the top-grossing movie of all time and had taken the foreign/global box-office record.

In its seventh weekend out, "Avatar" once again topped the domestic box office with $30 million.
