'American Idol' to reveal some Top 24 members early

american-idol-judges-320.jpgIt's an "American Idol" first -- some of the Top 24 members will be officially revealed early.

According to the FOX, some of the Top 24 semifinalists will be revealed in a special two-hour event airing Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. on FOX.

During Tuesday's episode, the remaining contestants will take the stage to perform their final solo numbers in front of Simon, Ellen, Kara and Randy. Following these performances, the judges will deliberate and will announce some of the Top 24 semifinalists.

Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 9 p.m., the judges will reveal the remaining contestants who will round out the Top 24.

Does that mean the Chairs of Doom will start to air on Tuesday, Feb. 16 or some of the contestants will be allowed to bypass the Chairs of Doom and go directly to the Top 24?

It's likely this "early" reveal is in response to the fact that an alleged Top 24 has been all over the internet already. "American Idol" used to be able to keep the Top 24 under wraps, but it seems that the last few seasons have seen the entire group of semi-finalists leaking weeks or months before Hollywood Week even airs.

In fact, we have a gallery of the rumored Top 24 of season nine, if you'd like to be spoiled.

Why does it matter when they reveal? Hasn't the reveal been recorded already since the rumour is out there??

It's likely AI saw the ratings for the Olympic games and to boost their own for Tues night switched gears and announced they will reveal a portion that night and the remainder Wed night.

Is this their way of changing things up a bit so that they don't have to get rid of Michael Lynche because his father allegedly announced that he was in the Final 24 in violation of the secrecy agreement? He's getting an awfully sympathetic edit for someone who is rumored to be kicked off the show.
