2010 Winter Olympics: TV schedule for Tuesday -- curling begins
Curling has no right to be an entertaining TV sport, but thanks in large part to the way NBC and its sister networks have covered it in recent Winter Olympics, it's attained a rather sizable cult following.Aficionados of the stone-and-broom sport can get their fix starting Tuesday (Feb. 16), when the curling competition for both men and women begins and USA and CNBC both devote several hours to it. Analyst Don Duguid -- whose enthusiasm for the sport and ability to explain things to newcomers without sounding like he's talking down to them is a big part curling's appeal -- will be back calling the competition. He teams with Andrew Catalon, who takes over play-by-play for the late Don Chevrier, Duguid's long-time broadcast partner.
Also Tuesday, the men's figure skating competition begins, and Lindsey Jacobellis tries to claim the gold she lost in 2006 in women's snowboard cross.
Tuesday's highlights:
NBC
Daytime: Only two hours during the afternoon for NBC (3-5 p.m. ET/PT), but it's live for the eastern half of the country. Coverage will focus on biathlon with the men's 12.5k and the women's 10k.
Primetime: In the 8 p.m.-midnight (ET/PT) block, the male figure skaters -- including Americans Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir -- take the ice for the short program, live back east. The women's snowboard cross will also be shown in primetime, as will the women's 500 meters in speed skating. The men's super combined ski event was scheduled for Tuesday but was postponed because of weather.
Late night: Coverage of the women's luge finals, 12:30-2 a.m. ET/PT.
USA
Live coverage of the U.S. men's first curling match vs. Germany from noon-3 p.m. ET (9 a.m.-noon PT), followed by the first game for the U.S. men's hockey team vs. Switzerland at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT.
MSNBC
The U.S. women's hockey team takes on Russia at 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 PT.
CNBC
Women's curling, with the U.S. vs. Japan, at 5 p.m. ET/2 PT, followed by Canada vs. Norway in men's hockey at 8 ET/5 PT, and Finland vs. China in women's hockey at 10 ET/7 PT.

Curling is the only sport I do watch. It should be on more often in the USA.
I was looking all over for a schedule to see if it was on or not, thanks to this site, I'm watching it now.
At least they don't get beat to death playing it.
As for NBC, ABC & CBS, sorry, I don't watch those channels.
LOVE curling! Who'd have thought it would be exciting, but it really can be with the right players -- especially those who play high-risk/high-reward.
It's certainly no less exciting than golf, which is a huge sport on TV (I'm not knocking golf, I like it too). Actually, I find curling significantly more exciting to watch than baseball.
I very much enjoy watching curling. There are lots of things I don't care for, but that's ok, others like them.
I believe in a tolerant world.
I've been watching curling everyday on USA and i'm a male athlete. It's so technical and the strategies are pretty cool. Not to mention a lot of the women are hot lol
