I think NBC's coverage of the Olympics SUCK's! they show the skating at 11PM when everyone who has a JOB is going to bed at the very latest!... The opening Ceremony was over at 9 PM PacTime and on NBC wasn't over until MIDNIGHT!... Why does the West Coast have to have such late showings of the events?
It would be nice to have a break down of approximate times for each event; my husband won't alter his plans b/c he just has to see Apollo Ohno's last skate. Since we don't know what time this glorious event will take place, our entire evening is wasted staying home just to make sure he gets to see it.
I also am really not enjoying their coverage. If you can't afford cable, you are completely shut out from watching anything they don't espressly want to show you. Where are all the other events? I keep reading about curling and I haven't seen even a minute of the event. I turned on NBC on the first Saturday of the Olympics looking forward to watching a full day of coverage, and I had Babar the cartoon! I couldn't believe it! If you're the only network allowed to show the Olympics, in my mind you better be showing it 24-7, not just on your affiliates. I went online to watch it, and was asked to verify who my cable provider was before I could watch it. So no help there. Thanks a lot! I'm enjoying the skiing and the skating at least, but I agree with Penny that I'm practically falling off my bed in a stupor staying up that late to watch everything.
I am the same Amy, i have to see Apolo skate too. Sometimes the coverage shows how long til Apolo is on, maybe it won't be so late and you can go out afterward! :)
and personally, i think NBC's coverage has been very good. Much better than ABC's coverage when they did it! at least we can see good coverage of the actual events, so what if they compile them? saves time, and otherwise, all us west coasties would miss the events while we're at work.
The problem is that most of the events are not shown live...such as mens and women's downhill skiings and snowboard cross. NBC wants to show it taped for the "primetime" audience so they can max out profits from their advertisers. Primtetime is the only time people can watch the main events and for many this runs till 2am! I didnt get to see Shani Davis win his gold medal till 2am! that is just pure ridiculous because by 2am we already know the results either from twitter, espn or some other media. NBC cannot expect us to go on a media blackout for 8 hours. It ruins the olympic spirit to know the result before watching it. I don't understand why they cannot show it live and then show the taped one for the primetime audience...Canada always has 4 or more channels dedicated to the the olympics where each channel will show different events live and then another channel will play reruns all day..i mean..doesnt that make more sense...but once again..America has to suffer so a big corporation can make money.
