2010 Winter Olympics: Sven Kramer asks NBC reporter, 'Are you stupid?'

sven-kramer-olympics.jpgOlympian Sven Kramer was none too happy with an NBC affiliate reporter asking him to identify himself in their interview.

On the heels of Netherlands speedskater Sven Kramer taking the gold medal in the men's 5000m, the unidentified reporter says to Kramer, "I need you to say your name, your country and what you just won here."

Kramer's response?  "Are you stupid? Hell no, I'm not gonna do that."

On the one hand, the NBC reporter can be heard in the background saying, "For tape identification" but on the other hand... the dude just won a gold medal and, according to Fourth Place Medal, Sven Kramer is arguably the most recognizable athlete in his home country. We can see how it would be a teensy bit insulting.

So this is sort-of the equivalent of a reporter from the Netherlands coming up to Tiger Woods after he has just won another green jacket and asking him who he is, where he's from and what he just won.

NBC reporting FAIL.

Still, Wednesday's performance could give NBC some much-needed momentum going into tonight's men's figure skating final, which features American Evan Lysacek. American Olympians http://usspost.com/nbc-olympics-shaun-white-5971/

So Andrea Reiher are you trying to say that speed skating is as popular as golf worldwide? Are you trying to know that as many people in the world know who Sven Kramer is that know who Tiger Woods is? I want some of what your on because your way, way out there somewhere.

Tim - Whoa, I don't want whatever aggro stuff you're on!

No, "the world" isn't supposed to know who the person is, but it is the reporter's job to know ... and if they don't they need to do the research first. A reporter is supposed to be a conduit between the unknown and the public.

Why do you think we were always laughing at Joan Rivers on the red carpet? It wasn't her plastic surgery. She had no clue who anyone was.

@Vy

The reporter wasn't asking because she didn't know. The reporter was asking for the benefit of the people who would be working with that footage down the road.

Sven thinks he's too important to cooperate? What a loser.

That 'loser' just won a gold medal.....

"That 'loser' just won a gold medal....." but still failed.

Winning in sports does not make someone an all around winner.

Sven Kramer doesn't have to waste his time with reporters who didn't do their homework. That is her mistake...not his. And calling her out and this doesn't make him a loser. Very unprofessional off her.

You go Sven! I am now a fan. She needs to go ask Lebron to introduce himself and tell us what sport he competes in or maybe wipe the kiss off of Drews cheek to start an interview. Sorry 'reporting' and NBC should replace her.

That NBC reporter is so ugly. Not going to lie, she really makes us look stupid. Also... this is the Winter Olympics... fail on NBC for hiring very ugly reporters.

After viewing the video, my first instinct was to view him as disrespectful and arrogant. I was on the "it's just for future identification purposes". But seriously, the guy DID just win a GOLD medal, probably one of the greatest achievements of his life. How hard would it be for a reporter to identify the segment/athlete by beginning the segment with "And I'm with Sven Kramer who just won a gold medal in the 5000m"? All medalists deserve respect, regardless of the "tiny countries" they are from, or the event they are competing in.
