TV ratings: NFL powers CBS Sunday; Globes, '24' solid

The Golden Globe Awards drew an audience in line with their performance last year, and FOX got decent numbers from the premieres of "Human Target" and "24" Sunday. But CBS used a huge NFL playoff game to score the night's best ratings.

Thanks to the playoff game, CBS averaged 17.8 million viewers and a 10.5 rating/16 share in primetime. NBC (12.95 million, 7.7/12) came in second (both CBS' and NBC's numbers will change some because of their live broadcasts). FOX (8.4 million, 4.8/7) came in third in viewers, a little ahead of ABC (8.3 million, 5.1/8).

CBS also led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 5.1 rating, beating NBC's 4.1. FOX grabbed third with a 2.6, edging ABC's 2.5.

24 was great last night. Im hopeful that a healthy start ,over 11 million in viewers and demo rating over 3, may bode well for 24 possibly continuing beyond this season. I've loved the show for the last 5 years now and apparently I'm not the only one. Long live Jack Bauer!!

There's something wrong with a ratings system where a program that airs out of primetime is enough to give a network a win in primetime based on a few minutes that overrun the regular schedule.

The Human Target and 24 were great last night, good to see people watching great action shows and not boaring shows about desperate old women and syblings.

In Northern California, Cold Case was not even on. 9pm was the NCIS rerun; 10pm was local programing.
CBS advertised the new episode all week and it wasn't even on. Not sure how that affects the ratings.

Wow is that an all time low for Desperate housewives or what and brothers and sisters getting beat by a repeat of NCIS is just sad. 24 was awesome last night,I hope it does good again tonight against 2 1/2 men and big bang theory.

I think the new FOX Shows performed well.

ABC did very poorly last night. How sad.

Great to hear about 24 dong well though! Loved it last night!

Re Shawn M: If you are on the west coast then Cold Case wouldve aired at 8 pm. The times in the article are eastern. The times they air in the rest of the country are an hour behind that (i.e. 10EST/9CST)

24 was solid and I liked Human Target.I usually watch DH and Brothers and Sisters..but 24 is my favorite show and I couldn't miss the premiere.

Chiming in for 24 and Human Target. I'm a new fan of both of these shows.
