'The View': Whoopi says Harry Reid 'didn't say anything ignorant'
The ladies of "The View" debate Harry Reid's racially-charged comments about President Barack Obama. Video below. The panel on "The View" took on Harry Reid's private assertion that the U.S. can accept a "light-skinned" black man as President, especially one who doesn't speak with a "Negro dialect."
Whoopi Goldberg makes the astute observation that while Obama is hardly "light-skinned," Harry Reid nevertheless made a very good and not-at-all ignorant point.
Sherri Shepherd says that she disagreed with Harry Reid's opinion but that Reid should've stood behind what he said and not apologized.
What do you guys think? Agree with the women of "The View?"

yeah, as Whoopi said, there's a lot of things worse he could say...like he wished slavery hadn't ended or that blacks and whites were still segregated (a la Trent Lott). what was up with Lott saying that? HELLO, that's why he had to resign!
and btw, Harry Reid didn't say ppl will vote for Obama because of his lighter skin or non-black dialect, he said those things will help him get elected. BIG DIFFERENCE, Ms. Sherri Shepard, who has the logic skills of a block of wood.
CORRXN: and btw, Harry Reid didn't say ppl will vote for Obama *ONLY* because....
in other words, he didn't say they won't take Obama's qualifications into account as well.
i think he's statement is true. however i wouldn't want anyone running the country who didn't speak in an intelligent manner reguardless of what race they are because they make our country look stupid. does anyone remember bush?
One thing is for sure, Sherri Shepard is a total moron. Wish they'd take her off the show.
I must have missed the meeting where we all decided that The View was the arbiter of all things racial.
The reason we treat the views of these women as having anymore intrinsic value than those of any other woman in the US is?
Much ado about nothing. Just a ploy by those who have a vested interest to try and 'avenge' Trent Lott's departure. Which, if I remember correctly, the Republicans turned their backs on him because even they knew that waxing about a segregationist is something hard to defend as NOT racist.
I remember (correct me if I'm wrong) Gov. Schwarzenegger got into a little 'trouble' because he makes a remark about Latinos being 'hot-blooded' and the people LEAST offended were the Latinos.
For me Reid's comments are more along the lines of the governator's.
These Libtards have even less credibility than your spoon fed News.
Too many comments, per you? I have NEVER posted on this site and never will visit, see ya.
I think the irony is his statements weren't racist against African Americans or Obama, they were more offensive toward the intelligence and tolerant views of the American people. That we would be more likely to vote in a lighter skinned black man than darker skinned. That's not a comment on Obama, that's a comment us as a nation.
And sadly, I fear not far off base, btw.
Well I was born a Negro, and during my 60 years on this earth I've been labeled: Black, Negrito, Negra and now African American. I also know the history of the "light skin Negro (which was looked upon with favor) vs the "black skin" which was the face of terror; supposedly from Europeans and Americans. So Mr Reid's comments probably whole some truth. The Negro dialect, I didn't know we had one or there was such a dialect. But if speaking intellectually and having a political platform that the majority of the American people understand and adhere to impress the American people instead of slang. Mr Reid is correct and should not apologize. Much to do about nothing. You go Whoopi
