Sundance: 'Killer Inside Me,' 'Winter's Bone' acquired

kate-hudson-casey-affleck-the-killer-inside-me-320.jpgMichael Winterbottom's ultra-violent noir "The Killer Inside Me" couldn't scare off IFC Films.

The studio coughed up more than $1 million for the domestic rights to "The Killer Inside Me" at the Sundance Film Festival, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Based on the Jim Thompson novel and adapted by John Curran, "Killer" centers on a Texas deputy sheriff (Casey Affleck) who's revealed to be a cold-blooded killer. In particular, it's the graphic, realistic beatings of characters played by Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson that horrified and even offended Sundance audiences.

Another, less stomach-turning thriller is "Winter's Bone," to which Roadside Attractions acquired the North American rights.

Newcomer Jennifer Lawrence plays a teenaged Ozarks girl, Ree, who must navigate through a criminal underworld while searching for her dad.

Part mystery, part family drama, "Winter's Bone" has been seen as a contender for a Sundance jury prize.

[For the record, a previous version of the story credited screenplay writer John Curran as the novelist. Jim Thompson wrote the original work on which the film is based.]

killer inside me is based on the jim thompson novel

Tim is right! The film is based on the book of the same name by Jim Thompson. It is not based on this "Killer" book. Tribune Media Services needs to get rid of Hanh. She's a hack journalist. Every article she write has an error of some sort in it. I have plenty of friends who would do a far better job!!!!!

Kevin --

"Killer" is the shortened name of the movie. Often in journalism, a longer title will be used the first time in an article and then by a shortened version ("The Killer Inside Me" becomes "Killer," "Pirates of the Caribbean" becomes "Pirates") throughout the rest of the article.

Just an FYI. Your friends would tell you the same thing.
